Tile Enhancements in DA?

Hi all,

I've been messing with the DA beta now for a few weeks and I have to say that I absolutely love it. Makes a great game even better!

One thing I've noticed, however, is that no planets I've started on or colonized in any game I've played since installed DA has any tile enhancements (I mean the 100% to production, research, etc.). I've played about 6 full games.

I used to have at least 1-2 planets with one or more of these tiles on them...now, none.

It's not a huge deal, I'm just wondering if anyone else is seeing this and if it was done intentionally or if it's some sort of bug?

Thanks,

Neumannium

The bonuses are quite rare now. In my current 64 planet empire I have one 300% manufacturing bonus and one 100% farm bonus, both on one class 8 planet.

Yes this is an intentional move by the Dev's. There appears to be a split camp around at the moment with the Beta testers, those that love the new change and those that think it is too severe and is another limiting factor on how to play the game.

Personally I think its a good move but it was far to severe.

I didn't think the tile bonuses were too common in Dread Lords. They made it so that planets were more interesting than just a PQ number.

I don't mind the enhancements being less common - it makes them more of a bonus when they are not omnipresent. However, I think this first move was a bit of an overcompensation. It would be nice to see at least one enhancement per four systems or so.

I would not miss the 300% farm bonus!

But then, where would you get all of your cannon fodder for the imperialistic crusades which you will undoubtedly wage?

Some of us think of high pops as taxman fodder, not cannon fodder

I would not miss the 300% farm tiles in general, but maybe they could be weighted to appear only on very high PQ worlds with room for all the entertainment you'll need. Seems narratively plausible that the Precursors would only build something like that on truly huge worlds.

I disagree with the change- I miss the bonus tiles personally.

I agree with not having them on base planets though.

They were actually more rare than they should have been in the beta.  We've adjusted it here.

I myself am mixed towards the tile enhancements, or lack of, in this case. Originally I regarded diminished enhancements as a bad thing since personally I like to have those "specialized" worlds that actually are special for a given reason, not because I've built them up that way. Additionally I figured that by decreasing the bonus tiles, warfare would become even more necessary if you needed to procure much needed resources.
However, after reflecting a bit on the warfare part, I find myself wondering if reducing the available bonus tiles isn't a good thing after all. It would add some strategic depth, even if it is slight, regarding the conquering of planets. Thus, in the end, this would be a good thing for us in the "make war, not peace" crowd because it would add a bit more sense of purpose as we scroll over the galaxy looking for our next victim.
Hopefully the AI will recognize this and act/react accordingly. Hmmm...
