Can't defend against mass drivers.

This is an update of the situation of a previous post of mine called:
Did the ship combat engine change?

Note: missles and lasers appears to work fine. I haven't had any issues with them.

I've done some testing, and it appears that you can't defend against mass driver weaponary. Its like the calculation to defend against mass drivers never occurs. I even went so far as to slap on insane amounts of armour, only to have it to fail to protect my ships.

Could one of you devs look into this. I don't find it practical to rely on hit points alone to defend my ships.

Ive encountered this in my game aa well, mass driver weapons seem to ignore armor, I havent tried other defenses against them.

With the changes to combat are the attackers now rolling for damage as well as the defenders rolling for damage absorbtion? As I recall the Weapons would always do max damage and the defenses would roll to see how much was absorbed.

Also there was a UP resolution that all transport ships be armed with 5pts in all weapons (+15). When they attack/are attacked thier weapons fire but they do no damage to any ships.

Ah I thought there was a topic discussing this. Yeah in my current game I've got the *armor does nothing* bug. At first I thought maybe I just did something silly like forget to add the defense. But nope. It behaves as if the armor defense value is zero.

Yaep I can confirm this strange behavior.

The enemy is firing at ypu and you will get a damagenumber in the battlescreen, but that is all what happens. Your ship won't get any damage applied to it and this way it will survive the combat, even if it has taken multiple times his HP as damage.

Hopefully I could make clear what I was trying to say, english is a second language for me.

There is a bug that caused mass driver defenses not to work properly in the beta.  It has been fixed for the next beta update.   The other defense types did not have any problem.

Any info on when the next update will show up in SDC? It's been more than a week since Brad said something like "next release is next week."

I'm a long-game player and my last maturing 1A game hit some kind of crash wall (I sent the SmartException zip to GC2bugs). I'm hesistant to put much time into another 1A game b/c I think I should actually stay in my strategy ruts for the beta in hopes of at least roughly approximating a real tester's job.

I heard this coming week. Hopefully early in the week. I've fought my way through a game, where I couldn't use the foreign relations screen(due to crashes;info emailed) but now I'm laying off DA till the next build also.

Hopefully by the end of next week. This past week was very busy since lots of new stuff had to be finished up for the new manual's screenshots.

Thx for the info. Will look forward to the fix because for some reason in my last few games under 1A the AI seems to love those mass drivers .

AFAIK it goes off to the printers today. I'm not sure if the digital version will be included in coming betas or not.

The printers? Yikes, but that changes my impression of how much might change during this semi-public beta. Here's hoping y'all have the obssessive need to update DA post-relase as you did the core GCII!

I haven't played that many 1A games, but I've seen no sign of mass drivers among the AIs. Eeenteresting...

In my current game every AI but one uses mass drivers. BTW it looks that they started to research other techs but switched to guns.

Hmmm, if I were to research Bean Weapon Theory very early and then trade it to all the AI's, would they all go for that weapon type?? Should try this as it would make my defence easy to research and the chance of them choosing the defence against my weapon choice rather remote.

Obssessive ? Geeez thats certainly an understatement. I have never seen a bunch of developers roll out the fixes and tweeks so fast and so diligently as these guys. They put other teams to shame, and I doubt that will change on based their past record.
