Playing a beta is not that funny!

Bugs

I was so happy to have Dark Avatar finally.. I had always in mind its a beta and its possible there will be some bugs but the last bug ruined my game and lost 3 days of playing...
I researched Xeno Ethics and selected Neutral. But later I loaded the last autosave (set to every 2 turns) and had to select on Xeno Ethics again but it didnt work!
I selected Neutral again like before but later I colonized a planet and I had to make an ethical selection so I found that Ethical selection was not working..
And I couldnt go back and try again.. its lost..
Damn it..
And the problem is I dont want to play Dread Lords now I have DA even in beta.. hope
patches from time to time will fix the bugs till the final release in February.

I have to report more bugs btw.. the first beta after every exit from the game it was crashing but with latest patch it was fixed. Also my Death Probe.. well a ship with death module I could use it forever after the patch once I sent it to a planet it was gone.. thats the right thing I suppose but I "cleaned" many planets with one Death Probe.. heheh

The other thing.. it doesnt seem to be a bug but more a bad idea..
I had a Mega Event a plague that was killing millions from every race and every race had to research the cure. For me it was not a big problem because I have super research abilities in 30 turns I found the cure. But all the other races were struggling to death if I was not selling them the cure I would have been left all alone and winner from very early in the game..
Maybe the research cost should be much cheaper than it is now.. Mega Event yes but not to kill the opponents..

Another thing.. something its not for beta only but GC2 in general..
when you go to LOAD/SAVE dialog.. if you double click a save.. please make a pop up to confirm yes or no.. because I wanted to save and not load and I made this mistake and lost 40minutes of game..

thats all
keep up the good work

PS I have a question..
Stardock works a lot with skinning right?
How come and you didnt include multiple skins in game.. for example a different one for every race? hmm?

Beta is a beta. Don't complain, post a debug and describe how to recreate it.

Probably because it's not a graphical interface, the UI is something that's in the code?

I would like the required research points for the plague mega event be calculated in relation to the average research potential of all the AI players, or possibly calculated some other way that depends on the research potential of the players.

What I mean is that if you are researching at an average level for your game it should take you approx. X turns to research the cure. In another game where everyone had a much research level it would still take approx. X turns.

That way it isn't trivialized at the end of a game and it isn't totally overwhelming early in game.

I let the plague run out over the course of 300 turns just to see what would happen.
It seems there is a bottom limit on what the population is allowed to be or at least that the allowable population decrease is a set percentage.
Immediately there is a huge decrease in population but over the course of turns 250-300 the curve smooths out to no noticeable depreciation unless said civ is at war.
Try it for yourself and see if you ever notice a civs capital drop below 3.019 pop ever unless a troop transport is leaving.
My gripe with this event is, in the 3 times I have had it show up, the wormhole opening event to double reproduction rates has occured within 25-56 turns.
Reminds me of my problem with setting very slow tech research in the opening screen always seems to get me the tech explosion event in the colonization phase.

Enough ranting from me.

to the original poster:

i wouldn't play very long games with DA yet, just normal games that just last a few hours, no gigantic field or anything. changes a bug will ruin it are pretty fair, and changes of a new update coming out also.

also, even though you have DA installed, you should be able to just play galciv 2 without DA.

But thats why they want people on Betas - to play through on Gigantic games as well as small games - some issues will only show up on Gigantic games. Betas are there to help find bugs, not stop playing to avoid them. I hear the problem on a game being wrecked with a large bug, in those instances I try to play another Gigantic game in a different way, that either verifies some bugs or enables progress further into a game.

In effect we are testing a "work in progess" thats not yet finished or fully balanced. As was stated in an earlier thread, if it was ready they would distribute - the DA expansion is still being developed, so aspects of it will be wacky, we just report it, if they thought that bit was done - then great we nailed a bug - if it was work in progress, equally fine "reacting as coded".

You can play GalCiv2 "standard" as well as DA - they are installed in different directories and designed to co-exist. Although clearly you must have GalCiv2 licence or DA will not install.

your right zydor, however the original poster doesn't want to find the bugs it seems, he wants to play the game.
if he wants to do that and not lose time, play small games.

Well I said I want to play DA only.. I know I can play Dread Lords but dont want anymore..
Also.. Yes I want to play but no problem to find a bugs and report them but hopefully those bugs will cause just some problems not ruin the game...

I found a new bug similar to Xeno Ethics I reported on the first message, it seems the game forgets some events after loading a saved game.
On Xeno Ethics I made my selection and didnt work after loaded the last autosave.
Now I loaded a savegame again and United Planets dialog did not appear like before loading the saved game.

Another one with ships.. I have some templates saved.
When I went to upgrade them I found that they had 2 engines and 2 more ghost ones..
what I mean? They did not exist actually they were just a jewel and not a working component. And with no cost or any size.
Actually I had this templates from an other game. On my current game I upgraded a model to next one with better engines and saved overwritting the other upgraded model from the previous game.
So when I went to upgrade the ship again I found the first game's engines.. and the egines from my current game..
it seems tha game wrote the code but instead deleting the older file it updated adding the new engines without removing the old ones.

Hope Stardock reads..

The example mod that came with the mods folder has a reorganized UI.

I actually like it better than the standard one.

Well does it matter if its in the code or just a skin? I say that they are experts on skinning.. they produce software for different themes.. why not different theme for GCII too? Like many other strategy games themes that depends your civilization or age..
Anyway its OFF TOPIC..
