Ability to destroy capitals

Capturing a planet where the AI has built two capitals and not being able to remove them so I can build the capitals where I see fit is the source of major frustrations. Really wish I could just demolish them and build them elsewhere.

I agree. Are the Devs looking into making this an option in the future?

Sorry to resurrect an ancient thread, but I have been running into the same issue lately. Put DA down for a while and now I'm back (and it is just as good as it was before!).

Also, I just demolished a colony base on a captured planet and the plant's value went to 0.

I have the latest patch of DA. What gives?

Yes, this is what happens when you destroy a colony. I like it since it allows me to render a planet totally useless, which sometimes does need to happen. Adds some different strategy options.

Don't know if they are but this problem is easily avoidable. Just build your own capitals before capturing any planets. It's in your best interest to do this regardless. People tend to hold off on building their capitals while waiting to find the 'perfect' planet to put them on. In general I think this is a big mistake. I always put the manu cap and econ cap on my home planet. I usually build my manu cap before the end of the first quarter and my econ cap before the end of the second quarter. Sure, later on in the game I may find the perfect planet to have made my manu cap but all that early production boost to my home planet far exceeds the value that I get putting it on the 'perfect' planet sometime later into the 2nd year of the game. Anyway that's my opinion on the matter.

Speaking of Capitals, I conquered a planet that had, IIRC, an Economic Capital in its build queue. I already had one of my own. Will that 2nd Capital get built if I leave the queue alone, or will something prevent that?

I believe that it should complete normally, since the previous civ started it in the queue. You can own as many capitals as you can capture/flip, but you can only build one of each.

Yes, all capitals in the build queue can be completed. But every time you complete one, all capitals of that type get removed from all your planets' build queues. In other words:

- if you don't have an economic capital and you capture a planet has one, you keep the one you captured but you can't build any more
- if you don't have an economic capital and you capture a planet with an econ capital in the queue, you can complete it but you can't build any more
- if you capture two planets, both with an econ capital in the build queue, you can complete the first one only. The second one will be removed from the queue the minute you complete the first one.
- if you yourself are in the middle of building a capital and you capture another planet also building it, it's the same as if you had captured two planets--the first one to complete you get & the second you lose
- if you yourself are in the middle of building a capital and you capture another planet that has it already completed, you get to keep both the one you're building and the one you captured


In other words, it's always a good idea to at least queue up all your capitals whenever you can, even if you don't actually invest any building time in it at all. But if you can complete it, even better. You never know when you might capture another.

I wonder what would happen if I manipulated the build time, so that they would complete on the same turn? I don't know if the game uses the turn as the deciding factor as to what happened first, (in which case they would complete simultaneously) or if it puts them in some sort of order beforehand (and the last one would definitely get the boot). Interesting to find out.

This is a good idea, one I hadn't thought of. This might be especially helpful to me, as I tend to wait a bit to build my capitals.

One of the two goes *poof*. The same thing happens if, for instance you are building diplo translators, and then you conquer a world also building diplo translators. If you make it so that they will both finish on the same turn, one gets completed and the other tile goes completely empty. The game just won't let you have two.

Now if you're capturing a lot, it can be a good strategy to rush buy any queued capitals as soon as you take the world. This way, you can get as many capitals as possible. This only really matters if you are at war with multiple opponents, generally.

okay, I think this answers my question, you definitely want to build any capitals you can in build queues from enemy systems you capture, since they don't destroy capitals already built, just cannot have more than 1 in a build queu at a time.....

probably rush buying them would be a smart move since then you can build more if you capture systems building them also...........
