Help me with the boundaries

Hey I'm a noob at this game, i got it a weak ago and have started playin it and love it alot!

Only question i have is how do you show your boundaries compared to the other civilizations. For instance i am next to an alien race but when i get close enough to them there is a purple ribbon that goes around thier area or territory to show me where there territory is. How do i get mine to show up as well. Is it something i need to resaerch or is it something i need to build?
Please help!

It's nothing to do with territoty, it's the influence of your race. Nothing to do with research or buildings either, it's just a graphical representation

Thanks but then how do i get mine to show up as well? Is it an outpost that will show it?

No, they should show automatically, I think. Nothing you build or do affects whether they show, but stations will change your influence and where they show.

It already does. Where their influence starts, yours stops--you will see an opposing border running along theirs in the color you chose for your race. You can see influence on the minimap by clicking the button by it that looks like three overlapping circles.

It might be hard to spot if you chose a dark grey or black for your race color, that happens to me but it might just be my gamma setting.
