Windows Script 5.6 error? Arrghh! I just wanna play!

hi I just got the game, installed, downloaded and installed the latest update but I can't launch it this pops up when I try...

"Unexpected Scripting Error, Unable to load scripting libraries.
Please install using setup.exe and play game from the Start Menu.
(probable reason: Windows Script 5.6 is improperly installed. Search for
download "windows script" for a reinstaller)."

So I installed from setup.exe, tried to run the game from the Start Menu and I got
the same messege pop up. So I went to microsoft.com and downloaded and reinstalled
Windows Script 5.6, launched from Start Menu, same messege came up! Arrrghh!!!

I'm not very techy with computers but I'll do my best to decribe what I'm running on,

Packard Bell AMD Athlon XP 3000+
Geforce 6200 256MB DDR
XP Service Pack 1
2.16Ghz Processer
512MB RAM

err..sorry like I said not very techy! I'm hoping this is a common problem and
easily fixed! I wonder if the fact I'm running Service Pack 1 is the problem?
I really want to play this game as I've been waiting for weeks for it to arrive
(I live in the middle of nowhere in france) and I'm feeling pretty disappointed
right now So I'll be highly thankful of any help anyone can give!

Dan

thanks Marcathonas! (I edited my post as I came across a bigger problem, I'd asked before about patching). Just hope I can get this script thing sorted out now

I can't say it's the problem, but I've seen it suggested to have Service Pack 2 to run GCII. It doesn't hurt to eliminate another possibility.

Fairly sure it's not SP1 compatible. Kryo's off eating lunch, I'll ask when he gets back.

There's a file on Microsoft's site that is supposed to fix the scripting error, but I can't recall it offhand. In the meanwhile though, you should be able to just edit the shortcut to point to galciv2.exe directly rather than to gc2launcher (the scripting error is just with the pretty launcher, the game itself should work fine).

That normally fixes the problem. Are you sure it installed correctly?
Were you logged in with admin privilages?

Well I put the CD's in and followed the instructions, the same as any other game and I was logged on as admin too. I've no idea man.
kyro I tried your idea but without any joy, I've also downloaded and installed
service pack 2 and again no joy. This is starting to annoy me *left eye twitches*,
Maybe I need to contact Stardock directley, I've heard good things about they're customer service. In the mean time I'll continue to attempt to get the thing rolling
its just really frustrating. thanks for your suggestions and if you have more keep'em coming!

Ahh right! I'm new to all this! Anyways problem solved I tried installing windows
script 5.6 again just for the hell of it and this time round the damn thing decides
to work! SO I'm very happy now I've no idea why it didn't work the first time, maybe because SP1 just wasn't having it. thanks for all your help I'm really looking forward to getting into this game!
