new small feature suggestion

i would like to have this implented.
at your adviser screen you can select were all ships from 1 rally point have to go, all newly created ships and what ships should be builded.

i would like to add a fourth ability to it, and that is to select a certain ship (all ships with the same name for instance) and be able to send them to 1 spot.
maybe with a box that says that also ships that are currently docked to go to that spot.

why: well like if i am creating allot of types of ships and i just want the constructors to go to 1 point,
or with an invasion i want a certain type of fighter to go all left, the other type go right and the invasion ships go in the middle.
just be able to do something like that.

or when you are making lots of constructors and you than need some of them to select them and make them go to 1 point (even the once docked) without all the other ships that i have laying around going to that spot.

I concur. I've thought this would be useful many times.
The governors are a wonderful idea and save lots of time, any new ones would be of great help. It would also be nice to have an "auto launch" governor done by ship type as they complete, even though that would probably run outside of the scope of the governor's current capabilities.

I hadn't thought of assigning rally points by ship type, but if your suggestion is possible, maybe we could also get a Governors update that let us assign planet rally points by the type of ship being built.

That would enable us to re-point all constructor production to a new rally point while leaving the existing ships on route to the older rally point.

Yes please, I have wanted this basically forever. But I've never requested it.

I'd love to see an all around governor overhaul that would allow us to mix and match different conditions.

For example, there may be situations where I want all ships of type A that are currently going to rally point P to go to rally point T instead. Or maybe I want all ships that are currently at rally point P to go to R, but those en route to P do not change. Or finally, I might want all ships of a certain type except for those going to point P to change to point R.

I think that a system looking something like the itunes smart playlist screen would probably work well. Basically, you'd set up a filter, and then add an order to be executed on all ships that meet the filter. It might even be a good idea to allow you to save these filters for future use. For example, let's say that I have rally points set up for a war with the Drengin. At some point, I make peace with them and decide to concentrate on the Yor instead. I might want to keep my Drengin related plans on file knowing that I will probably make war on them again at a later time.

All in all, I think that a system like this would add a lot of usefull flexibility to the current system.

You had a great post up until here. The interface should stay the same. And I would never suggest any software developer take an Apple approach to anything. The only reason I-pod does not dominate with 100% market share on digital media players is the fact that many people dislike I-tunes.

There is no real need to change the interface. If you want to combo the governors, you pretty much could just set them sequentially as appropriate. As far as "all ships at rally point P do...", wouldn't it be simple enough to go to that rally point and select all your ships?

There will be no need to change the interface until there is so much functionality in it that it becomes convoluted. We are at least 30 governors short of rethinking the interface.
