Bonus Pack Question

I think all the add-on bonus stuff will never be included on the CD due to piracy. The bonus features will hopefully be an incentive enough for people to buy the game. And the not able to save feature for the download might help stop that to be pirated too. Just my thoughts, don't know if that's the truth or not.

amd the bonus pack i believe hooks into different parts of the game. so i' wouldn't count on it

If it goes straight into the game so you can't reinstall that will suck. Other than that this will be a great game!

I would think the bonus pack would be relatively small download size unless they start addiing movies and stuff? Unless I'm wrong, it should not be much trouble patching in the bonus pack after you reinstall the program? At least I hope it's small cause I'm on dial-up.

I will soon be in the same boat. It will probably be archived. But with pirates already posting copies of GalCiv i will understand if they need to make install direct into the game.

Not being a pirate I may be missing something here but. . .

If someone has a pirated copy (i.e. the full game after release) of GalCiv what would stop them from DL the bonus pack anyway?

Does it matter that it is direct install or can be saved?

Even if (for sake of argument) 50 people pirated the game and they all use the same Serial Number what stops them from DL the bonus pack at different times?

Where I am going here is how will it tell the pirates (different people with same Serial Number) apart from people like me that may DL it multiple times with the same Serial Number but the one person?

I would still like to see this be allowed to saved to disk, or as i said have Stardock sell a CD of ALL Bonus material once everything is completed to those that want it on CD. Maybe this could be done as yearly updates so Stardock could sell one CD of Bonus Material per year to users.

What am I missing here?

The bonus pack size is about 10Meg (Frogboy told me this in another thread).

As far as archiving it, I'm unsure, I've seen threads that say it *may* be possible, but I can't recall that being confirmed. 10Meg isn't that large (even on 56K, which I have). I would like to be able to archive it also, but I understand their concern for piracy.

Downloading straight into the game is a bogus notion for those in my situation: I have no internet access at home and have to download through my work account and transport patches and such on burned cds to my "play" computer.

I think all the downloads are going to be archived on your hard drive as a single file, me thinks. So no, you don't need to download it over and over again if you keep the archive files.

We dont have an official size, but it'll be around 10 extra megs of data to download. We'll let you know the exact amount when gamma testing of the bonus pack winds down.

There's nothing wrong with keeping regular backups of the Galciv directory and sub-directories (e.g., on another hard disk, or a zip drive). Not only do you have a protected copy of the code, but of your saved games as well.

Is there a way to switch off the planet screen so that it doesn't pop up for all of your planets at the beginning of each and every turn when an item has been built?

I am playing a legitimate beta that I payed for, by the way.

I am not asking the size of the Bonus Pack or about keeping backups of the GalCiv folder.

I would like an answer to the question. . .

Will the Bonus Pack be a DL that can be saved to a Hard Drive and then burned on CD if people so choose?

Plese read the above posts by me to get a fuller understanding of what I am asking.

Toothy, good question. I only want to redownload if my hard drive fries and all my backups are corrupt.

The BonusPak is GalCiv 1.01 + specific data files. There is no specific BonusPak widget to burn to CD.

Can I backup my galciv directory then and restore it when I reload my OS? I also do reloads on all my computers on a regular basis.

Yes and no. It is basically a patch, but there isn't a 'installer' or anything specific to copy, just updated copies of the new files that get added directly to the game.

The whole GalCiv directory can be copied to CD, and moved that way without problems.

I think it would be helpful if I knew which Titles are Stardock employees. Governor, Explorer, what? Or is everyone with a Stardock icon in the post an employee? For instance BoogieBac?
