Spies - VERY IMPORTANT FOR PROGRAMMERS!

Spies - VERY IMPORTANT FOR PROGRAMMERS!

Hi,

I have been playing DA and here are my few things to say:

1)Spies - I think it is the WORST thing in the game. Spies are to powerfull! How come 1 spy can disable whole building??? The enemy of whole galaxy - The drengins have spies on almoust EVERY tile of their ALL plantes! IT IS SO STUPID!!! All of their bulidings are cripled! It is SICK!
Now whay I should say if I have 10 enemy agents on my 4 plantes. And I produce 1 agent for only 10 turns so how can I defend? Im spending max on my spies. Sick!

Dear programers! You should do something about that. Here are my ideas:

- Spies should NOT be able do disable the WHOLE building. The should disable only the part of its bonuses - maybe 25% - not more! Reconsider putting more than one spy one one tile.
- Spies could disable buliding only for a period of time - for example max 10 turns and then they should automaticcly go back to the empire and rest 5 turns.
- Do you want SUPER HIPER SPIES that always succes?! Sick! When using agent the should have some chances for succes and some for a failure. There should be 3 or more experience of spies - novice (20% o succes), regular (35%), veteran (70%), super spy(90%). Each with better chances of suces!
- There should be few missions for spies:
One: disabling the part the buliding for a period of time (easy)
Two: destroying the building (hard)
Three: Steal money (medium)
Four: Steal research points (medium)
Five: Steal the ship (hard)
Six: Steal the tech (hard)
Seven: Sabotage/Destroy ship (hard)

All of above missions should have diffrent chances of succes!

Also there should be some way to train spies. Maybe even to exchange our captured spies for enemy captured spies (like in cold war).
To make the game smooth and balanced there should be some limit in having agents on mission and on pool.

***IMPORTANT***

Also, using spies against should be treated as act of "cold" agression. But to make this sense I have to know what agents I have - I mean who they are working for - for what race. I think it is obvious. If I have 10 enemy spies (sic!) and I nulify them then I should know WHO sent them! Also then if I know it is Drengin spy there should be a new diplomatic option abviable "Stop spying!" and "remove you agents or we will declare war!". True isn't it?
Also. Spy is Spy. It means that if he is planted in my empire he should be invisible for me or hard to detect. True? Of corse it is true! Spy is spy and he does not scream "hey! am here and I have just disabled you manufracting capital, nulify me please!"
You have to rework using spies and their role in the game. Right now it makes no sense, and makes the game worse and meanless and no logical. But I know that is is first beta and I hope my ideas will help you to make the game playable becouse right now it is not.

2) Now some thing other. The graphic thing. If I see planet with its value 15 I think it sould be a big planet. And if the planet has low value 3 or 5 it should be smaller. A mean that the size of planet that we can see on main screen should be proportional to its value/tile numbers. It would be very nice and would make the game more transparent.

That is all for now. I will think what else can be improved.
I hope you will consider my ideas. I think they are pretty good.

You will still be able to play Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords. Overwriting one doesn't overwrite it all.

But no, we don't intend to have options to turn off every last new thing in the game.

Let me say this very very clearly: IF you are not prepared to deal with unfinished things, DO NOT play the beta. Please. Okay?  We literally put these features in without any sort of play balancing as the release notes indicated.  If the game were complete, we would ship it.

Give us a little time to balance the numbers before declaring a feature "Bad".  How "good" would galactic resources be if there were say 500 of them in a small galaxy instead of 5? Look how much grief a little tweaking on morale or tax income can create. And those are values we're messing with minute changes.  By contrast, the expense of spies and the costs of new techs are something we haven't even started on yet.

Okay, guess I won't get it then.

That's certainly your perogative.

I'm at work so I can't check right now, but are spies configured via .xml files or are they a part of the core program?

I don't mod. I will get DA when it's released.

Turning off fundamental options is silly. However, allowing customers to edit the xml file sounds fair.

Keep in mind, however, that Stardock controls the Metaverse. If you don't want to play their game, you don't get to post DA scores. Given the additional features, DA players will score more points per Metaverse game than DL players.

Some people don't care about the Metaverse but, in this little forum, the medals are an indicator of credibility. Stardock could add medals indicating if a player has successfully completed a DL or DA game which would add a new wrinkle in discussions after the final release.

Weeloffire ---> you finished auntie?

Wow, I don't think I've ever heard Wheel referred to as "auntie". Hmmm, this one could be interesting. Be gentle Wheel, I don't think he knows who he's pissing with.
Now I could add something to this but...  I'm trying to be nice for Christmas.

I already tore him a new one. Marcathonas backed me up after his passive-aggressive "are you done" response. He's pwned in this thread.

Look, you guys, this thread is not worth the flaming you have been putting into it. Don't worry about other people annoying or irritating developers. It's enough if you don't do anything to annoy us or irritate us. This is hardly the most annoying thread that someone has started, and you should give each other the courtesy of actually discussing each other's feedback rather than just flaming someone because you think that their idea is stupid. If you don't like it, say why you disagree. But don't just call them stupid or worse.

Also, please note that it wastes my time to read your flaming posts, so if you don't have something constructive to say, don't say it.
