Shame on You

Not one single person on the forums has posted on Coach Schembechler's passing. He was a great man, and increadable coach. I'm not a Michingander; I'm Sooner born, and Sooner bred, and when I die, I'm Sooner dead. He will be missed.

Aye, He will be missed.

Not to disrespect him in anyway but.....

Michigan is still going to lose.

Who's death?

Personally I could care less that some sports coach no matter how successful or celebrated died. His death was no more or less important than the other countless deaths that happened around the world.

Any individual person's death, however prominent or obscure, is a tragedy to those who knew him or her. And it is also inevitible.

But my question is this: And this thread relates to GalCiv2 in what way?

Being in UK I have no idea who he was. The passing away of any individual is a sad event for those that knew them, but these forums are not the place to express it. Such posts would never stop as its members are Global, bringing to an effective halt the forum's purpose.

Its a dilema that some Sites have resolved by putting a 'rememberence' forum on the Site where those that knew the individual(s) could express their feelings - shoulkd there be enough who would want to use it, and thats not always a certainty - leaving the main forums for its main purpose.

I apologize if I came off a little rude, but personally except for the rare exception I don't think any celebrity's death is anymore important than any other joes. And if we posted in here about every death that we've heard about over the news well the forum would grind to a halt. This is not the appropriate forum to mention for instance the fact my grandfather may be on his deathbed, or that some bum in vancouver just froze to death sleeping in an alley.

Yes the coaching may be different, but so will the lives of everyone that has had meaningful contact with someone who has passed away.

My brother died last year.
My mother died last year.
My wife left me last year.

Life goes on, I guess.

My wife and children, and my mother, and my brother, are all more important to me than a coach of some stupid sports team.

It is not a shame on me for not knowing who he is, and it is not a shame on me for not mourning his death.

A great man, does not a coach of a sports team make.

Mistralok, I didnt see you posting about the death of Peter Brock. Who! you might be saying. An Australian motor racing driver, who's death was as painfull and sad as your Coach Schembechler's.

There is a time and place my friend, and the Galciv forums i dont think rate as the place, keeping in mind that the forums are an international community and a good percent of those here on the forum live outside the U.S.A and would not have a clue as to Coach Schembechler is. So i don't really think there is any shame on anyone.

Kudos to you for wanting to remember someone you admire or respect, just dont expect everyone else to do so, and perhaps post your regrets on a sporting forum.

I personally find his death a bit ironic.

I apologize to anyone who has taken offense from this post. It certainly wasn't meant in that spirit. He wasn't a great man because he coached a 'sporting team', he was a great man who just happened to do that for a living. Here is an example of his character: Bo Schembechler on Woody Hayes

I played for Woody, I coached for him, I patterned my life after him, and I consider him a great friend of mine.

Woody Hayes on Bo Schembechler

I didn't like the son of a bitch when he played for me, I didn't like him when he worked for me, and I certainly don't like him now.
