Neutral Technologies

The description of the neutral alignment includes "weapons and defenses" exclusive to neutrality like good or evil. What are they? I haven't seen anything on the game or any site that talks about these neutral weapons and defenses.

AFAIK there are no neutral specific weapons and defenses.

Yeah, thats a goofup in the text description.

Instead, nuetral players get the neutral tradings tech (3 more routes and another 10 percent trade income) and the mighty Nuetrality Learning Centers... which are far better than discovery spheres and are earlier on the tech tree.

If you think about it, what type of special weapon would a neutral civ have? Most likely none, since they are neutral. They would just use the stock weapons. I just wish there were a governor to upgrade all of your invention matrices to neutrality learning centers at the same time.

Research academies upgrade directly, which is usually sufficient since they're the pre requisite tech for the NLCs (you should really have xeno ethics by then!)

The problem is when you capture worlds that are loaded with invention matrixes and discovery spheres.

is it possible to edit the .xml file to make all three buildings upgrade to NLC's when available?

In PlanetImprovements.xml change the Upgrade Target to Discovery Sphere.

You may have to research up to DS for it to upgrade all the buildings, though.
I'm not sure on that point because I never have Invention Matrix's or Discovery Sphere's on any planets before I have the NLC.

But that is how I have mine set up. I usually get Xeno Ethics and NLC just after Research Acadamy, then go up to Discovery Sphere to get the Omega Research.

And from then on, everything upgrades to NLC. On captured planets it may not show up if there are research buildings already upgrading to something else, though, until the next turn. But I usually cancel them and reorder the build order anyway when I capture a planet.

v1.4 neutrals get access to the nano ripper mass driver - size 11, cost 120, damage 5

I think those are the stats.

Everyone has access to the Nanoripper, it is not a Neutral-only tech.

A Neutralizer?

hmm, moosetek is it possible if you would post the entire line-up of text concerning the neutrality learning centers for me.

I cant play any updates for galciv2 at the moment, and at 1.0 it seems they are impossible to create at all.

Tnx in advance

Neutral and Xeno Ethics gets you 3 more pq's per planet. That's a big help.
Ultimately, in a pure war situation, it is resources that determines who wins.
The extra pq's come in handy for more factories and stock exchanges.

In PlanetImprovements.xml, it is the last entry:

[Improvement]
[S_Name]Neutrality Learning Center[/S_Name]
[S_QueryGraphicName]Museum_Of_Pain.png[/S_QueryGraphicName]
[S_InternalName]Learning Center[/S_InternalName]
[S_Description]Increases research on planet.[/S_Description]
[S_BriefDescription]Increases research.[/S_BriefDescription]
[S_Type]Normal[/S_Type]
[Cost]500[/Cost]
[Maintenance]4[/Maintenance]
[AI]14[/AI]
[Research]22[/Research]
[Employment]20[/Employment]
[S_IconName]Museum_Of_Pain.png[/S_IconName]
[S_TechRequirement]Neutrality Learning Center[/S_TechRequirement]
[S_UpgradeTarget]ResearchAcademy[/S_UpgradeTarget]
[/Improvement]

In my modded file, I have the UpgradeTarget as 'Discovery Sphere' (with the space but no quotes).

And the NLC did not work before v1.1, as far as I know.

Or more NLC's and stock exchanges.

I have found that it is research ability that can win the game.
If you can out research the AI, you can out gun them.

And I don't usually arm until I have to. So the stock exchanges early enough is important to get the cash reserve to buy those out-gunning ships in the nick of time.

One thing I have noticed recently.

No matter how many research points you have, you can only gain the same number of techs per turn as you have planets.

So if I have x amount of research points and can research 7 techs in a single turn, if I have only 5 planets (with the same number of research points) I can only gain 5 techs per turn.

Very interesting, Moosetek. I hadn't noticed this. My average research levels will only allow me 2-3 techs per turn, but this is nice to know in case I decide to really ramp up my research in a future game.
