Carefull GalCiv Writters are learning our stratagys

Hi,

This is the ONLY game that I know of where the writters are taking note of what we are doing and posting and changing the game to make the AI's a LOT harder to beat..

I started with GalCiv 1.1 and now at V1.19 (not even a full version) most of the cheesy tactics which I've found worked before no longer work now.. at this point in time I can only think of 3 that still work..

Unfortunatly for some (like me) who play the same way game after game (well if it works keep using it) are finding it increasingly hard to play at the same level and still achieve the intended goal..

Its like our lines of communication are being intercepted and used against us.. So... What does this mean...????

If you want to see your favourite stratagy no longer working then post it.. and make it popular..The AI's that moniter this and other forums use it to change things... NASTY.. I hear some of you say...

Well for good or bad the Writers of GalCiv are still very activly changing the game.. which is a sign of things to come .. Other game writters will have to follow the example being set if they wish to make they games have a longer lasting interest to their gamers.. Or their games will become boring and obsolete..

I give the GalCiv team a 10+ on their commitment for ongoing improvements to the game (as I was told over 15 years ago.. a computer program is never finished.. there is always more to do).. This is the same type of support that you see in operating systems.. programmers listening in on what we do with their software and changing it to suit.. All I can say is that its about time that game writters started the same thing..

a thumbs up to the GalCiv team .. (although some things I don't like.. simply because I have to change how I play the game.. LOL ) for setting a high standard for other game writters to follow..
Congradulations ...

I agree well done Stardock. I only keep playing a game if it gets harder as I go, and this game does nothing but get harder. Great job guys.

;-) We have been noting some of the diplomacy stuff too. So in 1.2, the trade techs to the AI thing won't work quite as well either (i.e. if they can't afford the tech, they can't afford it).

The AI total universal exploration means they have the entire universe to trade techs too right from the start and thus get a massive early tech boom. Unless I play as technologists or a humankind with research bonuses the AI usually get scary ships and massive incomes a long time before you do. Scouts are vital in my opinion and I build about a dozen a game in order to offset the AI's massive advantage. The tech-sharing U.P resulution is a life saver as it steals the technolodgical initiative. The A.I looses a lot of it's tech focus as it starts warring. Altarians and Torians fight Drengin and Yor and the Arceans are quickly crushed by everyone. The usual.

Yeah, and when the AI learns that an Overlord just won't shoot a starfighter down because it will never catch it, no matter how hard it tries, no matter how long its only 2 parsecs away... the sooner fleet actions will become meaningful. After all why have ships with diferent speed if the AI is so broken it can't work it out? (unless you like playing a dumb AI)
