The loading song is driving me crazy!

Are the lyrics for the song that plays while the game is loading posted someplace? I have been listening to that song ever since getting the game and I play gigantic galaxies so sometimes my load times are 20 minutes or more. In all that time I can't figure out what is being sung in that song! I sthe silly thing in Tibettan or what? I think, I'm not sure, but I think that I can make out the word 'you' at the end of one line!

Somebody please help me here!

Scincerely,
Scintor

I often switch over to another program (like these forums) while it is loading and it plays in the background. When the mumbling song is over the program is loaded.

That reminds me, I've never tried it but can that audio file be "modded out" and replaced by something a little less annoying?

Ah... Eventmusic/MainTheme.mp3 just switched that out with a good ambient tune by The Orb and now all is well.

Yes, Scintor, the lyrics are posted, I can't remember where- will search around and get back to you. They are in Latin (of a sort)

Okay, if you want to switch out the song with another go to this in your program filse:

C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Event Music

the menu song is entitled "main theme". Then follow these steps:

1) take the main theme out of the event music folder to another location, such as "my documents"

2)Then right-click the "main theme" and copy&paste its onto another piece of music.

3)Then when you have your modified music file, put the 'new' main theme where you got the 'real' main theme from.

It should play the new song instead of the old one!
(Blast! the forum double pasted some of the comment!)

20 minutes?!

My loading times on gigantic maps never go over 1-2 minutes.

I think that my computer is not as good as yours and I am playing bigger games (biggest available.)

Thanks Mistralok, its nice to know that my hearing is not going bad. Here is the answer to my question from the other post.

Qui-he mah-leh-swah-dah-fah-mays
Qui males defames
What bad crimes

et behl-luum In i tehr-nuum
et bellum in eternum
and eternal war

Qui-ah-paw-steh-ree oh-ree
Qui posteriori
What afterwards

Vivictis ... armas
victims of arms

Qui-uul-tih-mah-Rah-tee-oh
Qui ultima oratio
What last speech

mawrs tu-ah

your death

Doo-kit ah-mawr Pah-tree
Ducet amor Patriae
leads to love of the Fatherland

ahd glaw-reeum

and to glory

The Latin isn't very good Latin, if the below transcription is correct (which I've taken from another post -- thanks for the link, Mistralok). I'm a Latin expert of sorts, so I'll correct it to some degree. My contribution will be in all caps. Please, I mean no disrespect to those who've gone before me -- your contribution has been helpful! Though I must admit that I hadn't heard any Latin in the song, but I'll be listening to whether I can hear it next time.

Qui-he mah-leh-swah-dah-fah-mays
Qui males defames
What bad crimes
WHO [males defames is meaningless, but it could imply] WILL PREFER A BAD REPUTATION

et behl-luum In i tehr-nuum
et bellum in eternum
and eternal war
AND WAR FOR ALL ETERNITY

Qui-ah-paw-steh-ree oh-ree
Qui posteriori
What afterwards
WHO [again, the Latin isn't really right] IN A LATER TIME

wi-wih-kttees wee-et-ahr--mees
Vivictis ... armas
victims of arms
[I dont' agree with the transcription, so I'll give another one. If it's Latin, it's way off!]
VIVICTIS VI ET ARMIS
CONQUERED BY VIOLENCE AND WEAPONS

Qui-uul-tih-mah-Rah-tee-oh
Qui ultima oratio
What last speech
[AGAIN, BAD LATIN]
WHO THE FINAL SPEECH

mawrs tu-ah
mors tua
your death
[THIS IS TOTALLY RIGHT]

Doo-kit ah-mawr Pah-tree
Ducet amor Patriae
leads to love of the Fatherland
[THE TRANSCRIPTION SHOULD BE:]
DUCIT AMOR PATRIAE
THE LOVE OF THE FATHERLAND LEADS (US FORWARD?)

ahd glaw-reeum
ad gloriam
and to glory
(LEADS US FORWARD) TO GLORY

day-baw-noh- et mah-loh
de bono et malo
from good to bad ("come what may")
(NO, IF THE TRANSCRIPTION IS RIGHT, THEN:)
CONCERNING GOOD AND BAD

tay naws-keh
te ...
"Know thyself"?
(INCONPREHENSIBLE)

sem-pehr-pah-rah-tuus
Semper paratus
Always ready ("semper fidelis" is "Always faithful")
(CORRECT)

way-rih-tahs
veritas
Truth.
(CORRECT)

So, if this is supposed to be Latin, it is very garbled. I'll try to listen next week. As I've said, I haven't heard Latin in that song, but it will be insteresting to listen with that in mind. I always just assumed it was some non-Indo-European language.

Thanks for the translation update CornhuskerMac...
I love that song.

Here is the original post from the composer, Mason Fischer: The vocalists name is Toni Burdey. She is a wonderful talent! When I worked with her to add the lyrics to the melodies I composed for the intro movie, it was more important that the lyrics matched the existing melodies and were "singable." We took MANY liberties with the phrases to make them work musically. So, the lyrics are short Latin phrases that are somewhat organized as far as meaning and content.

The language is Latin. Here is a VERY rough translation for the intro movie. Again, many liberties with the language are taken here.

Qui-he mah-leh-swah-dah-fah-mays
et behl-luum In i tehr-nuum
Qui-ah-paw-steh-ree oh-ree
wi-wih-kttees wee-et-ahr--mees
Qui-uul-tih-mah-Rah-tee-oh
mawrs tu-ah
Doo-kit ah-mawr Pah-tree
ahd glaw-reeum
day-baw-noh- et mah-loh
tay naws-keh
sem-pehr-pah-rah-tuus
way-rih-tahs

A hunger that leads to crime and war...forever.
From effect to cause...woe to the vanquished by force of arms.
The final argument...your death.
Love of country guides me for glory
come what may...know thyself...always on the ready....truth. Edit- I find this melody to be hauntingly beautiful. I did not recognize the language either; I simply assumed that she was singing in an alien language.

Nice postings! I've admired that song and it's singer all along. Thankyou for the lyrics.

Thanks for that translation, Mistralok. Maybe we should say it's Latinate, because, yes, there are quite a few liberties. I can't wait to listen closely when I can get back to GC2!

This could be your problem becuse your computer is doing 2 things.

Holy crap! There's a loading song? Glad I got that upgrade when I did. By the time the song starts to register, the game is loaded. Kudos for hanging tough for 20 minutes, guys!   (Now go buy some RAM...)

The game plays a song while loading? Never noticed. I guess that's because I don't have any speakers. Who wants sound on a PC anyway?

Even on gigantic size galaxy my longest load time is aprox 2 min.

Not all gigantic maps are equal. Selecting everything abundant and tight clusters gives you nearly 300 planets. According to Mumblefratz selecting everything abundant and loose or scattered clusters nets you nearly 500 planets. I've started my first gigantic game with everything abundant and scattered clusters and this game does appear to use more memory than my last game with tight clusters. Even with the bare minimum of Windows XP services running (~120MB) after I loaded the game, memory usage was over 1GB! My computer only has 512MB of memory so it was making extensive use of virtual memory. I need a memory upgrade bad!
I only have 512MB as well with no noticeable issue. It's really the virtual memory that can cause a problem. I just set my virtual memory to 4095MB (the max). I don't have to shut down services either, although I do try to keep them to a reasonable minimum just on general principles.

BTW on my 900Mhz celeron my load time is probably 5-6 minutes. Long enough for me to start loading the game, go fix myself a gin and tonic and be back in time to start playing.
Re the load time thing, I haven't seen any major difference between letting the loading screen have XP focus or switching over to Word or the Web while I wait.

I can tell from reading around there, though, that size really does matter, and so does hardware. Anyone know if creaky old video cards help slow a load? Seems like part of the effort might be setting up stuff in your pagefile that the game wants to leave in VRAM.

Wish I could afford an upgrade but I am saving all my brownie points to get Dark Avatar. I'm married with children so naturally, I have no money. As for the 20 min loading time, I enjoy the game and that is just the price I have to pay.

Actually in the 100 or so times I have loaded it, there doesn't seem to be much difference if I leave it alone or load something else.

I play gigantic abundant everything scattered because it gives me the most planets. when I first start the game, I have the typical 2 minute loading times, but as the game progresses and more planets are colonised and more ships are built, the loading times greatly increase. But I love huge, complex games, so I am happy.
