what weapons should have been

this is only my opionion whether it is humble or not who cares

weapons tech tree should have been like this

light weapons

lasers

phasers

disrupters

heavy weapons

plasma

photon torps

heavy disrupters

other weapons

missiles

maulers (for anyone who doesn't know what that is it is a ship wrapped around a weapon at least at the start of the tech it would allow a cruiser to take out a dreadnaught with one shot, of course that would be all it would get)

you would get to choose one weapon from the light and heavy catagories ie start down that tech for normal research, and production costs

if you decided to research another weapon class that would cost you double and a third class would cost you triple in the light and heavy weapons lists

the other weapons list would just be expensive all the way round

ok i have had my say it is now time for the na sayers to have theirs

and i know it is probable to late to add to any version of the game unless you can mod it in which i am not sure you can or can't

I think you can mod all that in, to say that it really matters tactically, the game is of a strategic focus clearly more so then tactically. Though it would be cool to have a lil more variety.

Yes, yes, yes. This game is all about the money. Making your numbers jive is the main focus of this game, and as you may have seen, just about everyone builds their strategy based on that. Economy is the number one priority. Starbases just enhance this. Their military/tactical advantages are minimal at best... they are there to supplement your finances. Ships are the eye-candy that at least allows us to focus a little bit on the personalization aspects that most gamers enjoy. Overall I believe the weapons to be sufficient for what the game is. Now if we were to see a truly "tactical" version of GC... maybe in GC3, hint, hint... I think we would see a truly awesome game come to life.

well, i always wanted to see the weapons a bit differently too. I always thought it would be cool to have each race have their own weapon style. they could be (mostly) equal in tech cost and stuff, but each need its own type of defence. Obviously, you can't reseach a defense for a weapon unless you have seen the weapon in action, but different weapon defenses could be traded (and be pretty valuable in some cases), bought, sold, stolen, ect. It would be kinda cool to say the least, to have to find a way of getting drengin weapons in order to start to learn to defend against them. Also, once you have a Drengin weapon, there is nothing keeping you from developing further, and having drengin weaponry, ready to defeat an enemy who was anticipating human weapons instead.

oh cool, i wonder if you could mod the game to the point of having more weapon/defnse types. i have to try this now....

It would be nice if weapons were actually unique instead of having each one incrementally smaller and more powerful than the one before. This is an area where Galciv still lags behing MOO.

Thank you for the correction. I originally said such but then quickly retracted... but then since we're both here...   BTW...

using a different idea

Actually it's been so long but I seem to remember us saying to "edge someone on" which to us was pushing someone to the "edge" of the dare. "Egging someone on" was also used... but again, I am an old fart so... whatever  Just thought I'd clarify.

not to worry i figuared it had a slightly different meaning is all

to me

edging someone on was like you said pushing them to the edge

egging someone on was to try to get them to keep going as they were usually when they are mad

Making your numbers jive is the main focus of this game

eh...you do know that jive means to lie right?

Main Entry: 1jive
Pronunciation: 'jIv
Function: noun
Etymology: origin unknown
1 : swing music or the dancing performed to it
2 a : glib, deceptive, or foolish talk b : the jargon of hipsters c : a special jargon of difficult or slang terms

or the dancing performed to it

I think that this is where the term "do all of your numbers jive?" and variations thereof came from. In essence the "dancing" being choreographed, or routine...

do all of your numbers jive

The verb you're looking for is "jibe"

S: (v) match, fit, correspond, check, jibe, gibe, tally, agree (be compatible, similar or consistent; coincide in their characteristics) "The two stories don't agree in many details"; "The handwriting checks with the signature on the check"; "The suspect's fingerprints don't match those on the gun"

Aha! Thank you very much G.W.. Isn't it amazing how a thread about weapons turns into a learning lesson for some of us, and it has nothing what so ever with the game. And the devs at Stardock thought they could control us, muahahahahaha!!!!
