Ship parts-Extras

I know many people enjoy making full models of ships for GalCiv2, but how many people have considered making some jewelry pieces?

Personally as a player while it’s nice to see new ship models I get much more use out of the jewelry pieces when designing ships, though that does include using hulls as jewelry via Kyro’s hull mod.

Is it even possible to make jewelry?

I agree. New parts would be much preferable to just models. I'm not sure whether or not it is possible.

It's just as possible as making hulls, it's just that people seem more interested in making the full hulls.

i was told you couldn't save and use jewelry pieces on ships or can you with kryo

Hmm, well hopefully some modder takes a look at this and realizes how popular a jewerly pack could be.

Jewelry was the first thing I looked for in the downloads when I first got the game. Was disappointed to not find any. Wish I had the programs and knowledge to make them.

So what is it with those ship parts? Is it now possible to make new ones or not? Haven't looked at the files yet (will do it later tonight) but as I have some spare time, I could model some ship parts this weekend...maybe a hand full, depending on how the hardpoint system works (will have to look for that too) and what filesystem is used for the models (ya see I'm sitting at work right now and had the idead to do this but haven't really bothered with taking a look at the files).

Would also be nice to know how much polys the engine can handle (really don't want to have to test around how to kill it). Seems like most ship parts are pretty lowpoly. Of course if you make a ship out of it the polycount will be pretty high depending on the number of parts you use but is there any limit in what the engine can work with, without crashing due to to high polycount?

Look forward to seeing some jewellery from you Kazeroth, I'm surprised other people haven't focused on what is a unique part of the game.

It always has been, but modellers have been more interested in doing full ships from TV shows, etc, rather than parts for custom built ships.

The engine doesn't have a limit, though obviously performance can suffer if you use too many.

Because you were asking a completely different question. As I recall, you wanted a way to export designs or clusters of jewelry from the game as single units for use in later games.

yes sorry i thought we were talking about this now sorry i messed up

Okaaaayyy got some infos on the hardpoints too and got myself the example .X file (wouldn't need it tho ). Guess I'll start working on some parts now. As soon as I have figured out how I want em to fit into the game, I'll post my progress

That's great to hear Kazroth   . I'm sure there's quite a few people that have been wanting some new/unique jewelry. I wish you much success.

Sooo well well things are going pretty smooth down here Got some parts already inside the game, pretty easy. It's really nice how good this game supports mods Still havin some problems with getting the hardpoints right but I'll figure that out too. So as soon as I have let's say a hand full of parts ready (modeled, textured and tested) I'll be putting them up so everybody who wants can test them out (don't worry I'll open a new post for that).

Don't know how many I will finish this weekend but I still hope somebody will have some use for those parts

Kazroth, I can promise I will have use for them.... it's amasing how you can get bored of the parts that are in there.... I don't how i managed without the DA parts, and i'm sure i'll wonder how i'll manage without the parts you've released

Seems like I will have a lot of parts to build If it wasn't for the stupid texturing (I hate making textures) I would already have 10 new parts ready (building em from scratch). If anybody has some sugestions what parts could be usefull, just tell me and I will see what I can make.

what would be really good is a Startrek neck like section that attatches to the Galciv saucer part.

Or some BSG stlye lauch tube/pylons.

Some more bridge like sections perhaps?

There's so much you could do.... I recon you may regret asking for suggestions

I think you are my new hero! I would like some parts that are hard-pointed in the middle. So that it would connect something like a 'T'. Also, what are the programs you are using to make your parts?

Until now everything went pretty fine. Hardpoints, textures and so on BUT it seems that I've missed something. Some models crash the game as soon as you try to use MORE than one custom shippart. Others work fine until you try to scale them inside the shipbuilder. Think I'll need some more time to figure out what actually the problem is. Don't worry I will be releasing tose parts as soon as I've found out how to solve the crashing.

Maybe some of the guys at TBSModdercan help you out. There's quite a few GC2 modders there.
