Why are cheats not working!?

I have reinstalled game twice now..tried with 1.31 and 1.4x but cant enable cheats.Nope, no way...i first thought it has to do with mod i installed, but it doesnt work in the game either.I use cheats to spawn minor races only!

Maybe cheats are tabu, but dont be shy if you have experienced same problem...please tell, or tru and see if you have same "problem"...

Cant find edit button up...only key that works is ctrl+B, it just restarts game with same race!No other keys are working!This i bug!

I tried the cheats too, no good. Only one that did work was Ctrl+F for Frame Rate. Not exactly what I had in mind.

I read that to enable cheats you must: "...Useful Galactic Civilization 2 Cheats
To use codes, you must launch the game from a shortcut that has the word "cheat" added to the end of the Target line in the shortcut's properties screen.

For example: "drive letter:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\galciv2.exe" cheat

Then enter the codes at any time during game play..."

Yep, did that - nothing!!!

Grrrr. (Gnashing of teeth).

psnd1969 is spot on with what you need to do to get the cheats, ive had no problem with 1.3 not updated to 1.4 yet, but every time i use the cheats     its takes the challenge out and then i have to delete the shortcut  probs cause the cheats are like crack and i cant help meself

If these are Metaverse games then I'm pretty sure that cheats are disabled for obvious reasons. If not a Metaverse game then it should work, but I haven't tried v1.4 yet.

works fine for me.

lol no cheats here... i'm afraid to try the music player or change a race pic because it might trip the cheater flag lol.

I do the same as stonewall, not working for me in game...very irritating!

Edit: I didnt use or activate Metaverse yet, just have been playing normal campain...

I've never played a campaign, perhaps cheats don't work for them as well. Does anyone know?

I'm not sure what you could be doing wrong--I just checked it myself and cheats work just fine in 1.4X, in both normal and campaign games. I would check to make sure you've set up the shortcut properly to enable cheat mode, but beyond that there shouldn't be anything to make it not work.

Only ctrl+N to restart map works, and ctrl+h is shaders something, ctrl+L is save or load game shorcut.I tried reinstalling again...it does not work..i cant imagine it has something to do with my keyboard...
I do it like this : C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\GalCiv2.exe" cheat

I really dont know what i might be doing wrong...hmmm, well after I type cheat those ""

are gone.Should they be there after i type them...crap, also i have been playing for a while and i still havent encountered minor races!

Well, I figured it out. When I right clicked the properties submenu on my Galactic Civilizations 2 shortcut in my start menu, I found that it wasn't "C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\GalCiv2.exe" listed it was "C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\GC2Launch.exe" that was in place. When I changed my short cut to read "....\GalCiv2.exe" cheat - everything worked perfectly. So far there seems to be no difference when launching the game btw "GC2Launch.exe" and "GalCiv2.exe".

Try it, and see if it works.
