Online price for Galciv 2

Galciv 2 is £14.99 (delivered to door) at play.com

Why have stardock not lowered the price in line with the marketplace for its online shop? Seems rather peculiar considering no-one would pay more when its available for less elsewhere?

The stardock online shop lists at $39.95 = £21.06

Is the online shop pricing in line with the US online shops?

Does purchasing the expansion pack from stardock give me a serial to play the game or do I have to purchase the original and the expansion?

Thanks,

Sithuk

Well the expansion requires the orignal game. You may want to look at the Totagaming.net pricing http://totalgaming.stardock.com/ if you are planning to buy GC2 and DA.

A previous thread which stardock (Kryo I believe) responded to. Basically Stardock as the publisher is obligated to sell the game at MSRP (manufacturers suggested retail price) so as not to obtain an unfair advantage over the other retailers selling the product. If Stardock undercut this price, retailers would not sell GalCiv2 themselves.

However, retailers are free to sell at a price below MSRP but they lose some profit margin.

I suspect that at this point many retailers are cutting the price to move their remaining inventory off the shelves to make room for newer games and to set themselves up for the Christmas selling season. GalCiv2 has had a good run in the market, but in "game sales years" it is a bit old now.

Thanks for the informative post Tertullian. I wasn't aware of Stardock's contractual obligations.

The strong pound and weak dollar play into the pricing too. I think Play.com's pricing for the game has always been lower than is typical.

Gonna have to remember that in the future
