Space Rangers 2 is now on TotalGaming.net

No DRM, no fuss, and only $19.95 for this award winning epic space game!

http://totalgaming.stardock.com/games/?id=sr2

Stardock is pleased to announce that Space Rangers 2 is now on TotalGaming.net.  Space Rangers is one part strategy game, one part adventure game, and one part space simulation.  It has received very good reviews (85% overall average making it one of the highest rated PC games of the last couple of years).

As Gaming Trends put it:

There is not a single second wasted in the entirety of the game and there is no mistaking it for a small game. Space Rangers 2 is epic in scope, gargantuan in size, and goes so far beyond fun it borders on ridiculous. I am absolutely drunk in love with this magnificent title and have forced myself to finish this review just so I can get back to saving the universe - with a little pillaging on the side.

The game is truly epic in scale. A great deal of it feels like a role playing game. Other parts feel like a strategy game. It's difficult to describe the genre since it encompasses so many different elements. It's the same difficulty many had explaining Star Control 2. Adventure game? Strategy game? Action game? All of the above?

You can read their full review here.

But now you can get the award-winning Space Rangers 2 digitally via TotalGaming.net.  The same convenience (and no DRM) found in Galactic Civilizations II can be had with Space Rangers 2. Just press a button and install it to your machine. Get a new machine 5 years from now? No problem, just re-download it.

With TotalGaming.net you can manage all your games from a single UI -- Stardock Central.  No renting, no DRM, it's your game, any time, anywhere.

And what about price? Space Rangers 2 is only $19.99!

In the menu there's a help file. It has quite detailed explainations of everything. Takes bout an hour to read it all, but very informative.

50 minutes left and I'll have SR2 D/l'd.

I am going to be burning through all my TG tokens in about two days at this rate! I suppose it's what I bought them for...

Thanks for going after interesting and innovative games, Stardock! (And making them, too)

Before I go to purchase this game, can someone confirm 100% that Starforce is not in it please?

I refused to get this back in March because it was infected with Starforce. Starforce caused me to dump my expensive DVD/CD burner last year. I downloaded a demo, I didnt realise at the time but the freaking DEMO has Starforce in it. Yes, the demo for gawd's sake. Why they put it on a demo dont know.

So I had Starforce in my system and didn't know it. My CD burner stopped burning unless I lowered the speed. I had to lower it over and over until it refused to burn at all. Then it stopped even loading games.
What was happening was that the Starforce driver, which sits between the hardware and the CD driver software, was causing it to slow down. And every time it slowed a bit, it never speeded up again. Something to do with the way Windows XP operates.
So I thought my DVD/CD was faulty and ditched it and bought another. Which started to behave exactly the same.
Formatted - everything was OK. Then reinstalled this particular demo and the slowdowns started all over again. It was then that I researched it and found what was happening.
So, if they have it in a demo they might leave it in the product. I want to make 100% sure that it is truly removed before buying SR2.

No starforce?!?! I'm about to pick this one up finally, thats the only reason i didn't buy it in the first place from the store. Starforce = bad.

where their forum moderators were encouraging piracy of GC2 due to the lack of copy protection

You can't be serious!?! I don't like Starforce as it stands but to activly encourage piracy on someone who does not have copy protection is just very very low...Can anyone give me a list of games that has Starforce on it...so I won't ever buy them?

Around the time Brad posted a front page article about how he didn't feel DRM was necessary in GalCiv2, the admin on the official StarForce forums posted a link to a pirated copy of the game. He said he just wanted to point out that the game was being easily pirated. Whatever. Still a scummy thing to do.

Here's one website that lists games using it:

WWW Link

Though there are plenty of others.

Edit: Just to make it clear again - Space Rangers 2 is on that list, but that was the original release. The StarDock version does not have it.

I wish I'd have waited till this came here. I purchased this game in the store and the copy protection that came on it was a nightmare. I had nothing but problems with the copy protection. However, it would be unfair if I didn't say the game was great.

I like the demo. Was a bit confused with the game but had fun and was disappointed when the demo ran out. So I want to support companies that don't use DRM and put their games on TGN. I'm buying it tonight and download the full game. Good job. I hope the SR2 guys are on here reading this thread and see what a good idea it was to hook up with Stardock.

Just bought it based on 5 minutes on the demo. I love a good in depth game with a little fun attached and I love the no DRM approach.

Just as an aside, no DRM makes life so much easier since I'm often on the road working and stuck in hotel rooms/offices where there is a lot of downtime (I probably only put in 10 hours a week actual work when out of town for a week). So in between packet sniffing and traffic profiling I get a game in.... and thanks to Stardock getting that game onto my laptop is easy and no hassle.

$20.00? That was a bargain at twice the price.

(Just to get back to the game - we all know that Starforce got owned)

Get this game while you can - it really rocks (even a little more than galciv2

As someone already wrote it is "basically" Pirates! in space almost like freelancer without the 3D plus the rts&textadventure quests (quests for glory, money and rare equipment)
The main interface is like a continuous turn-based mode, making travelling streamlined and combat either very tactical or you can watch your autopilot do the fighting.

SR2 is Nonlinear unless you see gradually taking the galaxy from the dominators system by system as linear gameplay.
Game Setup (Starting Race, "Profession", Skill, additonal Equipment, various Difficultytopics) is also customizable and Galaxy will be randomised too.

Did i mention NO BUGS - not a single crash - and the few translation errors from russian to english are called something like "galactic newsspeak" ..thats a creative excuse hehe
btw. the original supportteam was very good too - i asked for the 64-bit starforce drivers and got the link to the file 4 work days later ! (no problems so far - although a nocd to reduce startup times is very tempting - so far my attempt not to bash at Starforce)

have fun

the russian development team has disbanded, unfortunately - there is a more recent russian patch, but no-one seems to want to translate it

HOLY COW!

I am a mean critic, and this game really blows me away (mind you i do factor in cost for a game).

I buy comp games about once every week or 2. And i must say it might be awhile before i get another one.

Right now i am so hooked on Space Rangers. I mean there are just so many ways to play. Being a pirite and hunting down trade ships and shaken them down for cash. Trading goods from planet to planet. Being a delivry boy, or getting some lasers and being the assassin.

The only bad thing about this game is the steep steep learning curve and the lack of a propper tutorrial.

PM me if you need help...
and pm me cause i think i need help:P

20$ this is a steal.

Also if you buy it online... NO STARFORCE!

Oh man, what a shame. I hope Stardock are willing to do some spiritual successor to this then in the future.

And I thought I was the only one who still had this gem on his computer waiting to be finsihed

Took me several months to get it right, and to do all the subquests, but damned if I didn't conquer that mountain. Never did Tales of the Sword Coast, but I ate up BG2 and ToB like crazy.

I did the Space Rangers Demo. Looks interesting. Decent gameplay, though the combat controls are a little hinky. Almost wish I could take some free time before the quests kick in to build things up a bit, but such is life. Looks extremely dynamic, which is a huge plus, even if it is a little on the cartoonish side.

I liked the demo, but having had purchased Flatspace II this year, I cannot shell out any more money for this genre. Too bad I ruined the expierience of Flatspace II by makign myself rich instantly with a memory scanner

GOD DAMN YOU STARDOCK!!!! You guys just find ways to take away any free time I have left. I saw this game at the store and was like... WTF, hell no i'm not going to buy that. Then you put it up here, I read the reviews and with the no DMR thing, I was like.. what the heck...

GOD DAMN YOU ALL!!!

Downloading it now o.O

Oh my word! I almost bought this game a while back, but the retail version was Starforced and I couldn't get an answer *for certain* I'd be able to use the no dvd hacks floating around.

Now this. Beautiful, just beautiful. By all accounts it's a game that *really deserves* to be played by a wider audience.

Now if they could just persuade someone to translate the patch (which apparently adds a ton of new material) things'd be absolutely perfect...

(random50 - never fully satisfied )

Having a little problem. Damn stardock central crashed on me at 90% and now when i tried again, it has to start over from the beginning. DAMN YOU STARDOCK!
I'd pay 2 bucks for the patch... lol dam micropayments you'll end up killing me!

Soo open ended, I can see this is going to take a manual read and some liberal playing around - like I did in galciv2!

Having some crashing problem. Near the beginning of the game, when I was offered to do some ground combat training, the program would crash when I accept the mission. The screen would turn black. When I alt-ctrl-del, there's an app running called Exception. Can't get any other info. Who do i contact for support?

It's funny, I've been thinking for months that SR2 is exactly the kind of game that should be on SDC!

Can I be the customer from hell and ask if I can use SDC to download/patch Space Rangers 2 when I bought a hardcopy? I suspect the answer is 'sod off' but I'd love to be able to update my games that are now on SDC/STEAM.

SR2 is alot of fun, the only issue I found with it is occasionally dubious english translation, but in a way it adds to the games charm. The fact the russian devs roleplayed it in the manual to be an intergalactic language issue was inspired.

SR2 is awesome. The best part is the unscripted war and random-seeded galaxy: I've had games where the Coalition is clearly winning from the start, and I'm left to my own devices. I've also had games where the Coalition loses half of it's territory almost immediately, and I have to prop up the military with fat donations and personal leadership to turn the tide. It's AWESOME.

Some of the adventure puzzles are frankly INSANE, though. I hope everyone remembers calculus and algebra.
