Suggested Improvements

Suggested Improvements

Hi. No, I'm not going to read through the forums to see what issues here were already discussed. I don't have time to read other people's stuff, only my own stuff and responses to my own stuff. I'm not looking for comments from the peanut gallery, either. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. If you don't like what you see here, get over it. I'm only reading responses from Stardock personnell. All others will be ignored.

I'm not a sociable person. I'm also not a mean person, or even an unfairly rude person. I'm just blunt. If you don't like it, ban me from the forum. I'm not going to accept reprimand for what I'm about to say. I will resist and reject all critique. These are my opinions and they will not be swayed in any way.

My friend and I have this strategy.

It works every time.

Say the Altarians, Torians, and Iconians all have an alliance.

We coordinate the simultaneous take over of all their resource starbases. Then we make peace with everyone. No one stands a chance. There is no resistance. We're playing on tough, and no we're not raising the difficulty so the AI can cheat in order to make the game harder.

Another issue regarding AI.

My friend was playing Terran, evil. He was doing evil things. The drath had superior military technology and from everything we could discern, he could have beaten my friend if he had just taken the opportunity to attack him. However, my guess is the AI was comparing his 40 planets to my friend's 140 planets. My friend was really scared of the Drath. So, I guess it doesn't matter what your military technology is like as long as your production is higher and you have more planets. That's extremely homosexual. The Drath should have attacked my friend and stopped his advancing evils. They allowed my friend the time to catch up in military technology and then take all his (the Drath) resource starbases. They could have gotten their friends to gang up on my friend, or something. The Torians and Altarians were already defeated, but the Drath still could have teamed up with the Iconians and I'm sure they could have bought the help of the Thalans or something.

The other evil races were like nothing. That's another thing. In 1.0 the Drengin always ended up the most powerful. Now it seems like every map I make the evil races get the short end of the stick. And I've mad a LOT of maps. The Altarians or Torians usually end up having the most space available to them. I want to be able to make my own maps or to be able to set it up so that everyone has an equal amount of space available and habitable worlds available to them. I sit there and hit Ctrl-N over and over again waiting for the right map to come up and it's annoying. Even when I think I have a good map, there are always players that end up being much weaker than others, and it's always the evil races.

It's 2006. Where are the cordless vacuum cleaners? Where are the flying cars? It's supposed to be like the Jetsons or Star Trek by now. What I'm saying is, there is no amount of programming that is going to make an Artificial Intelligence that can challenge an actual person like myself. I don't believe it is possible because I don't see cordless vacuum cleaners. Okay, do you understand, the mayans didn't even have a wheel or iron weapons but they had a calendar more accurate than our own. So here we are trying to create 4X strategy games with AI's that can beat humans, but we don't have flying cars, free energy, or cordless vacuums.

Thanks for 1.4. At least it's a work in progress.

Anyway, the issues I would like addressed are (and hopefully most will be in the expansion):

#1 I would at least like an option to have a fair map, or even have the game distribute planets at the beginning, evenly. Control-L (cheat code) no longer works. (With 1.31, haven't tried it with 1.4) We can just pretend we all went through the colonization phase. Done it 100,000,000 times anyway and it would be nice to have games where you could skip that part.

#2 It would be neat if the AI could take assessments of the "Galactic Situation" and act accordingly. For example, evil terrans are conquering the galaxy. They are using stinger 4's and have only mass driver defense. We, the Drath, have Photon Torpedo III. We were just busy taking over the Drengin, and the Drengin surrended to the Terrans. Are ships are in place for invasion of the former Drengin planets. LET'S CONTINUE WITH THE INVASION AND FIGHT THE TERRANS WHILE WE HAVE THE ADVANTAGE BECAUSE IF WE DON'T FIGHT NOW THEY'RE GONNA KILL US EVENTUALLY ANYWAY SO WHAT IS THERE TO LOSE?!?!

#3 The AI shouldn't allow people to declare war, take over their resource starbases, and then accept peace the next (or even same) turn. The AI should be a little suspicious of amassing ships and CONSTRUCTORS around their resource starbases. Maybe a little line in the script like

IF ALIENCONSTRUCTORNEARSTARBASE > 2 AND ALIENWARSHIPNEARSTARBASE THEN INVASIONIMMINENTGETYERBUTTREADY

#4 Borders should be more sacred

#5 An option for randomized races. Qualities, abilities, and characterstics of opponnents could be randomized for every game.

#6 Evil races should be more evil. Make them suicidal if they aren't going to win. How about they crash their ships into mine? Or crash them into my planets, destroying improvements?

#7 Deathstars. At least have the option to turn it on or off before you start a game. Who cares about balance or gameplay or anything, if it's an option, people can turn it off. I'm sure that EVERYBODY would *love* to play at least one game of GalCiv2 with deathstars.

#8 Intergalactic wars. Okay, I complete a game. My friend completes a game on the same setting. We should be able to send ships back and forth to eachother's galaxies, through the center.

#9. Bigger than gigantic maps. If my computer can handle it, I want to have a map that is 4 times larger. I would say the present gigantic map might be a quadrant. Really the galaxy needs to be 16 times larger. There has to be way more than 250-500 inhabitable worlds in an actual galaxy. You don't have to make it all complicated. It's just pointless to have stars that don't have inhabitable worlds at all. There are 400 billion stars and you'll never represent that. What you can represent, however, is an accurate level of inhabitable worlds. What should the number be? 10,000. You might think oh that's absurd and insane and computers can't handle that and turns would take too long and wah wah wah. Options options and options we want more options! It wouldn't require so much effort to code it. I want a galaxy that is 64 sectors by 64 sectors, with thousands of inhabitable worlds. What's wrong with that? More opponents too. Yeah, I know, hardcoded for 10 players, right? I'm never, ever going to have a realistic strategy game, am I? I'm never gonna have a Civ with a real-sized world or a real-sized galaxy because it's just so "inconceivable". Am I wrong to want so much? What kind of computers do you guys create the game on? Probably the best money can buy, right? Assume I have the same thing, what is the biggest galaxy you can make?

#10. A map editor. Will that be in the expansion? Can I manually input the dimensions? So if I want to overload my computer and crash it with an enourmous galaxy, I can?

Looking for input from actual Stardock representatives, not user-feedback.

Hm.. he should respond soon hopefuly, either out or spite or interest at what we "non stardock" people have to say.

As for borders its kind of hard to put an area that people cant cross in something as infinite as space, although if the comp can say for us to remove our forces or starbases then we should be given the same option.

I like your ideas, but you will never get anywhere with a jerky attitude. So accourding to you this doesn't count so your not getting my full view if you can't be screwed reading this or anyone elses.

How about transwarp? How about planets that can move? How about planets that can transwarp? Anybody ever play trade wars? How about other ships that fly around that DON'T belong to any race but are private vessels? Like say the richest corporations had ships of their own? And maybe even the option to set at the beginning of the game certain variables like, what kind of ships corporations will be allowed to build...or maybe an in-game option where you could vote on things like limiting corporations to so many hardpoints or even total ships or types of ships? Say for each planet there was one major corporation that built its own ships. The number would depend on the size of the planet, and perhaps production capacity. Why have so many ships flying about? As hinted at in the initial post, my primary goal is to challenge my very expensive equipment.

I want to get the most bang for my buck. I want a game I can play for the rest of my life. I want you guys to keep expanding this game forever. When Stardock gets tired of Galactic Civs II, the modders can expand it on and on, but they need the tools to take it even farther. The game doesn't need better graphics or anything, just expandability.

So my biggest suggestion to Stardock is that at some point in time, create programs or a program that will create new options for modders and make modding easier. I'm really asking for the code, nay, the very engine with which you built the game! You can do it! I believe in you!

Oh and yes we'll pay for it. You could charge $1,000 for it and a million people will buy it. That's one billion dollars. You could even set it up so that you won't release it until one million people sign up to buy it and prepay. If it doesn't, you give them their money back and oh well nobody loses. But I'm right. One billion dollars. Think about it.

When you do it, I want 5% ($50,000,000) for having the idea.

Wouldn't it be funny if vivaswan108 was really Brad in disguise, just making a point about how we all can be jerks with ridiculous requests and suggestions. Kind of makes you think, doesn't it?

get the image of a chubby, glasses wearing, pimple faced, chocolate stained little dweeb... for any of you senior folk in here, remember messy marvin from the nesle quik commercials? You do? Good! That's him!!!! Marvin is the OP!! Wow, we've figured out what happened to Marvin... quick, someone call VH1!!! We need to do a "where are they now" special.

lol - Don't forget the posters of Lara Croft on his wall, and a collection of Cola cans all neatly stacked up in the corner.

The Drath should have attacked my friend and stopped his advancing evils

I thought it was in the Drath's nature to pay someone else to do that. Some people have been asking for the races to act differently, and now you want them to all behave the same? Looks like you'll never win Stardock...

You've got it! Haha, come on now Brad, give yourself up. (You forgot to ask for Carriers!)

Wow... I have seen some of us go over the top with some of our comments, including myself, but this guy is orbiting Pluto.

my primary goal is to challenge my very expensive equipment.

Then get a new hobby. Use the power of your "very expensive equipment" to create a game that will rival GalCiv2. If you truly have the computing power you are suggesting and you really, honestly want to tax your machine, then get to work sparky. I am sure if it is as good as you think it would be, that measly 50 million dollars you are asking for from Stardock for your *wonderful* ideas would be chump change.

I'm really asking for the code, nay, the very engine with which you built the game!

With all that power at your disposal your asking for handouts? You have everything you need apparently. Except for maybe the will to do it.

How about transwarp? How about planets that can move? How about planets that can transwarp?

I'm never, ever going to have a realistic strategy game, am I?

Hysterical.... You want realism or fantasy bud, can not have both.

How realistic can it be? I mean Black Hole Erupters, Precursor Mines, Colonization, Aliens, and Galactic Warfare. Seems pretty realistic enough for me.

GalCiv2 is a strategy game based in the F-U-T-U-R-E, and is strictly F-A-N-T-A-S-Y.

I'm not a sociable person.

Dude, get out your parents basement and visit the real world just once and awhile.

I'm not looking for comments from the peanut gallery,

Then you would not have posted.

So take the time to read our suggestions, put them with your own, help define them, help refine them, in general be constructive and get off your lazy arse and create a strategy game we all will pay you big bucks for.

/end rant

In hindsight I am finding that I believe this could be quite true given the responses from those of us who, as was stated, seem to attack eachother yet come together over a general "principle" of a sort. If you guys re-read all of our comments since (and notice no Stardock employees) I think it will make you think the same. Hmmmmm, shouldn't this one be on Achillus' Conspiracy Theory thread?

Continguous zones of influence. Better put, you get within X parsecs of one of my planets, you're in my space.

Sorta like territorial waters on the ocean. Recognized limits of control are about 12 miles from the shore.

Depending on the habitable density of the habitables in your empire, its possible you could end up with a LOT of gaps between various islands in your space.

Much as I attempted not to post here, those last 3 from him had me laughing for ten minutes.

Vivaswan, you have no idea how coding or economy works. Your ideas are ludicrous. Your original post is recycled from the ideas of others and you know it. Your other three post show you have no idea what you're talking about, and you wouldn't know how to code new things into this game should I beat you to death with a manual. Which I would rather like to do, to be perfectly honest.

One MILLION? do you have sales figures? proof that that will happen? and saying you want a cut? My word, I'm astounded. You simply don't live in the real world, do you? Go copywright the idea, then you're owed money. Stardock could steal it right now and not pay you a penny. However, they wont because it's completely absurd.

Stop trolling, get out of your parents basement, and get the hell off our forums.

I simply can't even fathom a proper response to the waste of material that the OP seems to be. Guy needs some valium or an elephant tranquilizer or something.

He comes across as an attention starved nerd, desperately seeking some kind of recognition. The very fact that he made this public instead of just e-mailing stardock also suggests he needs to prove something to himself and everyone else. Maybe he thinks that if he can get the devs to talk to him in some way he's "special". Well, the truth is he's a nobody. The devs aren't going to give every crying noob attention.

I wasn't going to, but now I am.

What percentage of this thread contains game-relevant content?

What percentage of all threads contains game-relevant content? All of my posts have been about the game. Now look at your posts. Look, because I won't.

I don't have time to sort through 3-12 months worth of forums to see if anybody's had the same thoughts I've had. Neither do I have the inclination. This is the first time I've bought a game that actually had a discussion forum that I actually joined.

Stardock has and is fulfilling my ultimate fantasies. I have been waiting for this game my whole life. There are no words that can describe my transcendent love for Stardock. I wrote this whole thing for their benefit. I wonder if they ever knew that things would turn out this way on their discussion forum. No, I'm not suggesting that you are all somehow "bad" people. There will be no character-bashing coming from me.

Pretty much every thing that was wrong with this forum has been addressed in this thread.

Take out of it what you will. I have one final suggestion, this time a serious one, for Stardock. Not that I care if any of my suggestions actually get read. I would prefer this entire thread be deleted. Anyway, my final suggestion is very simple, and I don't think any one here has thought of it before. Wait, let me go read every single message and make sure I don't inconvenience you for 15 seconds by making you read something you already read before.

Okay, no, no one has thought of it before.

My final suggestion is to actually shift the direction and focus of the entire Stardock institution towards developing a new game engine that can be used to design Galactic Civilizations III, but then instead of making an actual Galactic Civilizations III, just sell the engine.

Yes, I'm serious.

All i can say now is that at least he responded. And i dont think Stardock would ever charge that much for a game since a million people wont buy it at 100 dollars per game. And if anyone ever tried to make a game people could play for the rest of their lifes and be happy, than it would be common sense for all the other companies to run them out of bussiness.

Yes, you do sum up everything wrong with this forum. Congratulations on that.

For the record, we don't like jackasses. You act like a jackass, we don't like you.

These are facts and will not be swayed, and don't even think about trying to reprimand us, because we, as a forum, laugh at you.

Have a nice day.

I think I just made my point. The percentage of this thread with game related content is comparable to the percentage of your original post that had game related content. Perhaps if you had limited yourself to game related content rather then insult most of this forums userbase with your arrogance the whole thread would of been about the game. Food for thought Chum.

Yes, you do sum up everything wrong with this forum. Congratulations on that.

Actually, no he didn't. If you look at his posts he never directly insulted anyone. He never made a personal attack. Which of us can say the same? He did, however, pretty much hit all the other high points.

What percentage of all threads contains game-relevant content? All of my posts have been about the game. Now look at your posts.

There's quite a bit of truth in these statements. All his posts were about the game. They were ridiculous exaggerations of the kinds of suggestions and requests that get posted here every day, but they were indeed about the game and didn't wander into politics or religion as some recent threads have.

Wouldn't it be funny if vivaswan108 was really Brad in disguise, just making a point about how we all can be jerks with ridiculous requests and suggestions.

When I made that statement, I thought it was a possibility. Since then I searched through the forums and read through his posts and replies and I feel it's pretty doubtful. Of course anything is possible. Anyone can portray themselves as pretty much anything if they have a mind to, but the bulk of his posts simply indicate someone whose views are somewhat skewed to normal thought.

There've been many guesses as to who or what kind of person he is, probably some of them pretty reasonable. However, at one time or other, we have all been him.

I find the comments of the OP irritating but entertaining at the same time??

I especially like the attempts of this poster (and others) to enhance their status by trying to summon the creators of their universe to communicate with them and do their (the posters) bidding.

Also entertaining, I think is, the thought of how you create a post stating that you will only read posts from the developers, and then after obviously many nondev comments come flooding in you try to scan the thread superficiously for dev posts, while trying very hard NOT to read anything of the other comments.

Now look at your posts. Look, because I won't.

Wait, let me go read every single message...

LOL

I think it is funny that no devs have made any comments whatsoever.
