Computer security software

Hi. I'm looking for information for an alternative software other than Norton internet security. The primary issues I'm having with is is how it seems to consume system resources, while providing me with limited control over it, and a clumsy user interface.

There are three things I want to know about alternate software:
1. How effective is the software?
2. How much control would I have have over it?
3. How good is the user interface?

Nortons Sux!!! and it uses a ton of memory... i use The Shield 2006 Antivirus and firewall,(very efficent) by PC Security 44.95/yr i think.

I have used AVG antivirus for several years. It works good, it's free and has a simple layout. It also updates almost daily. I use it in conjunction with Zonealarm firewall and Spybot Search and Destroy. They are all are free. I first got them after recommendations from TechTv long while ago. I don't have link but a google search will find them farely easily.

Btw: BURN!!! Comcast BURN!!! (They Killed TechTV, The Bastards)

I would also suggest AVG as i use the 'paid for' version along with its integrated firewall, but to be honest the free version works just as well but the updates are 24 hours after the paid versions. That said the program is easy to navigate and very easy to use. You can easily set up which programs to not scan with its resident shield so your games will not be effected.

As for system resources it uses about 26k in total even during a complete scan so i have never had any issues with it like i did with norton.

I use BitDefender.
I bought it because it was the highest rated in nearly every category, and I have not had any problems since installing it.

I agree, Norton lacks. I have not liked Norton for years.

Yeah, NIS is a resource hog. I now use AVG antivirus, ZoneAlarm firewall and CounterSpy anti-spyware (with AdAware, SpyBot Search&Destroy and SpyWareBlaster also installed).

Beware of rogue anti-spyware progs which pretend to be anti-spyware but in fact actually contain spyware themselves (scum!). MajorGeeks.com is a good resource for security software.

Thanks for the info. Even though I'm a computer expert; I find sometimes its more effective to ask for advice.
