Custom Weapons

Neat'o

I think Dark Avatar would be even more unique if you could make your own custom weapons. Before you say no, hear me out.

First, I think it would be cool to change the color of your weapons. Altarians in Galciv1 with bright red lasers just didn't look right. So, you could change their Laser I's to teal, or blue.

Second, I think you should be able to make weapons form scratch. After you play the game and get all the weapons, it loses some lasting appeal. Ipersoaly think that weapons should have: Rate of fire, Damage per shot(obviously), range, and accuracy.

Example: you can create fast firing and heavy damaging lasers with high accuracy(and range), but it's gonna cost you.

Example 2: make a short range rapid firing laser, with short range, low-decent damage, and medium-low accuracy. Making this weapon a prime canidate for fighters.

Man, now that I think about it, Stardock would rock if they put this in Dark Avatar!

(cmon Frogboy, you know you wanna make it)

That sort of weaponary wont happen until tactical combat, and I'm extremely glad.

For one: it would require a hell of a lot of AI rework. Forget having to make their own ships from stats available, they now have to do it with weaponary? balance out what would be useful, and is required at this time?

There are too many variables to make it into DA due to AI restrictions, and personally I don't think it's a very fun idea anyway. I play GC2 for strategy management, not to micromanage every piddly weapon I make.

You would have the 'Default' weapons, and, if you wan't make custom weapons and option so you don't have to micromanage.

I don't mind micro-managing myself. You can never go to micro with me.'Cause when they don't have enough cool stuff to do, it gets boring.

Just think what galciv2 would be like without the shipbuilder. B-O-R-I-N-G. Thats what it would be like. No one wants to use the same ship over-and-over again.

Nothing to do with micromanagement as to why it wont make it. It would be a major strain on the AI, and whether you use it or not the developers spent time on it. I don't want an expansion pack with features I dislike, which would be why I don't buy the second expansion, and if ideas like this got in, I wouldn't buy DA either.

Someone could just make a mod (if you can make one like that) so that it isn't in DA but you could still download it when you go to the library on the GC2 site. That way everbody wins.

No, you can't make a mod where you invent weapon statistics, and also mods aren't supported by the metaverse.

Ah bumpkins. How can you change at least color in the files?

I'm not entirely sure on graphical modding, but I know you can mod hull/weapon textures, so it MIGHT be possible to change colour.

However, I'm not entirely sure, as graphical modding is something I don't do.

You can change the colors for the weapon animations by just editing the texture images in the Gfx/Models folder. If you want to alter the animations themselves (such as was done in the Star Trek Disruptors mod), you'll need to actually model and animate new ones in a 3d suite. In either case no data is changed if you just overwrite the graphic files, so the metaverse won't care.

It would be nice to change colors by race.

then make weapons and link them to several Techtrees for each race ;o)
and give the starting tech to a race you want ;o) you can make that this tech can't be researched by another, when you decline it as impossibletech or just make the price to 99999999

hope this could help you =o)
