Starbase area of effect question

For some reason the area of effect feature doesn't seem to be working properly for me.

When I "single-click" a starbase sometimes I don't see the area of effect, other times it appears as a faint outline. (sort of like putting a round piece of glass on a black surface-only the edges are visible)

I know this feature works because when ever I click on an AI starbase, the area of effect is clear and obvious.

I've tried different zoom levels. At a very high zoom level, I can see the blue "haze" of the area of effect, but at such a high zoom level, I can only see a parsec or two, so it's fairly useless.

Is there some setting I'm not using? Any ideas?

Thanks,

B.

Might want to try using a lighter color for your race, or park a couple of constructors over the SB and select them all at once (causing the fields to overlap and be very visible).

I tried using lighter colors a few times, but there seems to be a difference between player alpha and computer alpha. I even switched colors with the computer a few times, and I always had trouble seeing mine. One of the patches (1.1 or 1.2) fixed this for me, but then it came back. Is there an xml entry that sets the transparency? Maybe the difference is only for the custom race?

When you are selecting colours in the start up. Select white as the basic framework. I forget what it is actually called.
It makes the outline of all the charts and tables white.
It also makes the starbase circle very visible.

If you use the mouse to drag the background around, you can find areas where the circle shows much better.
