Heroes

I'm not sure if this one is beating a dead horse. But how bout heroes. I would like to see "hero" units in the game. Or the very least, captains who we could assign to captain our ships. They would be able to earn experience and gives the ships bonus. If they do lose a battle, they would escaped and return to our captain's list to be assign on another ship. One thing thought, if they do lose a battle, they should lose experience. Also, there is a chance they can die instead of escaping.

You should be able to name captains. And there has to be a limit on how many captains you can have. Say, 4 or 5 at a time. One thing is, captains should have a level limit so they don't become too powerful, yet still be a factor.

What do you guys think? Not demanding this for Dark Avatar or the next Patch if it'll take too much time to implement, but I would like to see it before Galciv 3.

But for the meantime, how bout just a superficial UI where we can assign captains to ships. No bonus or anything, just a line where we can add names of captains for each ship.

I was thinking, this could be done by adding an additional UI line for each ship. This could be handled the same way as naming ships except this area would point to captain's names.

I've played the star trek mod, but it just seems like its missing the most important part of that show, Captains. What would the Enterprise be without Captain T. Kirk or Picard? Even Enterprise would have been alot worst without Bakula.

Your suggestion does add some flavor to the game, but I think it's a minor addition for more than a minor amount of development effort. Just my opinion.

I would also like to see this if only to add a bit more flavor to the game. Who knows, a good captain might even be able to turn a close defeat into a victory

There are levels for ships that survive constant combat. Once my ships get to level 3 I officially ditch the GSID (Generic Ship ID) and crescen some fanciful name.

I tried searching the forum on the heroes subject and couldn't find any. So how bout it Stardock? There any plans for this?

They already have a level system. It's right above the stats.

I actually name every ship that comes out of my shipyards. Except for the small and tiny hull size. I actually had one large hull ship that started to gain high amount of experience and level.

The CVS: California, in my mind, I gave that ship a captain I named Captain Rico dela Cruz. Then I thought, wow.. only if we could actually give ship captains. The CVS: California was always in the fleet that I sent out for a battle I could not afford to lose. Otherwise, I just have it patroling. Then one day, after a victorious battle againts the Torians, the ship sustained heavy damage and was returning to my territory when a small fleet of Torian medium size cruisers jump me. That was the day Captain Rico dela Cruz met his maker. I was so pissed off, yet it was a great experience. In hindsight, Galciv is one of those games that gives us a chance to play our own scifi series using our imagination.

Now imagine if we had captains, this would be awesome. Captain Dela Cruz would have died, but other captains would have risen to his place. The aliens would also have their own captains. It would be an intergalactic grudge match.

Yes, I have seen this mentioned before- but don't ask where I think its a minor, yet nice additon. THose who have played Master of Orion 2 should remember the childlike joy when a new hero would know on your door- err- planet.

-Planet Heroes would grant special boni (no, its not bonuses ) to production or population values/ammount.
-Space Heroes would similarly add to ships and fleets or invading armies.

Now, I can see this merge nicely with another request- that of adding a super-dreadnought-sized ship class to the game (i.e. larger than huge, aka. Gigantic), that would be limited in number to produce. This way one could make it so, that if you have a space hero, you could build one special ship for him/her/it to command. Only one per hero, and without hero ships of this type just aren't buildable.

And it would add some nice bit of flavour to the game when the Super Dreadnought Flaggship goes into battle...

Super Dreadnought sounds cool especially with a "Hero" unit. Kinda like having Darth Vader and his Super Destroyer on your side.

Also, maybe if we assign a captain to a space station, that station would get a bonus. Kinda like Deep Space 9.

I thought i read somewhere that heroes were being added in Dark Avatar. Maybe I just imagined it. Oh well, good idea anyway, both of them.

I would have thought Stardock would have been a bit more vocal if they were adding something as popular as heroes to Dark Avatar. I'm pretty sure Heroes were mentioned as something the designers would like to see in Galciv3 though, so every cloud . . .

I like the idea of heroes...that also means that through espionage, you could find out the enemy hero's location (or simply track his or her infamous ship), and hunt down the enemy hero and kill him (via assassination or battle). Think of "Sink the Bismarck!".

The presence of an infamous hero in your territory can be considered an act of war if he is not removed by the potential adversary within a few turns.

There can be all sorts of ramifications that add to the game upon intstitution of heroes. I liked the way MOO2 utilized them, but it wouldn't have to be done in such a way as to mimic that game.

I think the addition of heroes in an expansion pack would be the single most awesome thing Stardock could do with GalCiv2. Definately want to see them before GalCiv3. Think of the possibilities for missions - you could have a regicide style mission like in Civ4, it would bring great variety to campaign missions. You could even have a hero style spy, with a big spy bonus who can undertake special missions.

Heroes are in consideration for GC3 (I believe Brad has said he does want to put them in at some point).

Galciv 3???? OH MAN!!!!!!! I dont know if i could wait that long... Well, I think if we can get vocal enough, we might have a slight chance that we maybe (hopefully) can see it in a future expansion.

As an added note: I believe that Galciv 3 does not need to come out even after 2 expansions. GC2 already seems to be very versitile. How bout putting a hold on GC3 and just build expansions after expansions. Like the Sims business model.

I would rather spend 20 - 30 bucks each time to improve the game i already love than buying a whole new game that might flop. Good example for me is Master of Orion 2. Imagine if they just built on that expansion after expansion. I bet it would have done better than releasing a Master of Orion 3. Another example is Europa 1400: The Guild. Great game and I loved it, then Guild 2 comes out (which i just bought yesterday) and to say the least, it sucks. I mean, it sucks as much as Master of Orion 3 sucks. It sucks so bad, I rather watch Bloodrayne the movie than play the Guild 2. And if you haven't seen Bloodrayne, its a Uwe Boll film. Nuff said.

Also, I would rather see an expansion that centers around the Hero than Multiplayer. What you guys think? Heroes or Multiplayer?

Well, hopefully, someone that can set the polls would find this interesting and do it. You know, a good feature would be if you could have individual polls in the threads. I've seen this on other message boards. Curious if it is feasible here.
