Probably hybrid games, like Deus Ex, which was an FPS-RPG, could be added to the list. Good ones like that=4.

1)there are good FPS out there, it's just the matter of finding them
2)RTS's are for people who can be stuffed going aganst the clock and the com.
3)RPG. gamers excape from reality, by makeing a new one
4)TBS. very simple but effective (eg worms, rome TW and most of all GC2)

P.S:
beat-em'up - get two people, some weapons, let them have it = 3(if that)

Hey you still forgot a couple. You've still got your space shooters, sports games, and your classic adventure games.

There are two categories of game for me, those that are mindless like FPS and those that require some thought like TBS. For me, each one has its place. It just depends on what I'm in the mood for. So, it would be hard for me to give FPS a 1 and TBS a 5. They both have value for me. Sometimes FPS is a 5 and sometimes TBS is a 5.

Some more Ratings:

Space Shooter- Build ship, upgrade, blast away !!! Rating-3
Adventure Games- walkaround, get lost, solve a puzzle !! Rating-2 (I hate getting lost)
Sports games- learn the game, click real fast !! Rating-2
Flight Sims- learn the game, fly around !! Rating-2
Combat flight sim- learn, fly, blast away !!! Rating-3

Note: I love a good FPS and will spend hours playing, but the rating doesn't change.

@Axel Kane
I did a web search on Deus Ex, this sounds like it might be worth a look...
Any personal experience details you can add would be cool ...

Deus Ex was a sci-fi RPG (which makes it kinds rare to start with). It was kind of FPS, but the twitch factor was very minimal, kind of like the way the original System Shock was (I know I am dating myself here). The thing that captivated me with the game was the story - great stuff.

The sequel wasn't a BAD game, but it was heavily 'consolized', and the skills development system bastardized. The story was only mediocre, compared to that of the original.

Deus Ex was a game that played like reading a novel--really a conspiracy novel. In fact, alot of movies and books touched on parts of the same conspiracies inherent in Deus Ex--books ranging from The Da Vinci Code to movies like National Treasure. I found it cool and exciting, even if you took away the "shooter" aspects of the game. Deus Ex 2, well, not so much.

I suspect that the next gaming experience to inherit the spirit of the first Deus Ex will be Bioshock. I loved Atlas Shrugged, and can't believe that a game will even be loosely based on that massive novel.

Thanks to Axel and Dano

I am going to give Deus Ex a play. A good PC game is worth more than GOLD !!!!!!
Maybe I'll see you on the forums for this game .....
