Another way of making the different races distinctive during gameplay

Another way of making the different races distinctive could be to add atmospheres to each planet and exclude certain races from atmospheres. Each race would have a particular atmospheric gas they cannot survive in or one they cannot survive without. In addition they could have a particular temperature range. I'm sure that if this was a desired addition to the game, it wouldnt be hard to balance the availability to planets for each race. For example the terrans might not be able to live in an atmosphere with no oxygen and a temperature below -20 degrees and above 120 degrees. The Torians may not be able to survive with oxygen and with hydrogen but may live in temperatures ranging from -60 to 150 degrees.
Just an idea.

I dunno about that, but I think it would be nice if the different races' bonuses could be carried over for systems you conquer through means other than military conquest. If you invade, the result is obvious, you slaughter the existing population, and replace it with your own. If you take a world through other means, it gets a little hinky. Right now, if you conquer a system without a military victory, like through influence or trade, the colonists on the planet magically become your people. There's no distinction made between having Torians under Human control, or Yor, or whatever.

If it were possible to have different bonuses based on what the primary race occupying the planet were, and have the ability to mix and match races living together under your control, that would be wild. Say that the Yor are more efficient at military production, or the Drengin make better ground troops, Humans allow for more diplomacy, the Altarians better researchers, the Thalans are the best social builders, the Kvorx are economists. Something like that. Then you get the ability to balance planets not only by structure, but by population mix. You can create different balances, and better synergies in your planets, and it DEFINITELY would add some weight to the desirability of the Influence game over simple conquest and annihilation, and the idea of giving or taking a planet through trade takes on a whole new meaning. Maybe trading the Drengin for a crap planet is worth it if you can use that planet to seed your border worlds with a buncha Drengin marine defenders.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't they adding race specific (sorta) planet conditions in DA and you must research techs to be able to colonize the other planet types?

Wow, this is an exellent idea! Even a simple version without mix&ndmatch but replacing with your own when invading and keeping original population when flipped would be much fun.

Don't forget that it would be cool that if you had a planet that was 80% dregin, it would be more likely to revolt to the Dregin. That would be really neat with a race that had good pop-growth bonuses. That would give you cause for alarm, maybe setup some camps...

Additionally, wouldn't you end up with a mixture of races if you invade using Information Warfare?
