Cap on Planets/Star Bases?

I'm new to the game...

I was playing in a huge galaxy and expanding like mad. Suddenly my colony ships wouldn't colonize any more. They would fly up to the planets but not colonize. The same thing also happened when I used a constructor to try to make a star base - it wouldn't do it.

I counted, and at that point I had 25 planets. Is that a cap? If so, where would I find info like that? I didn't spot it in my manual...

Thanks loads...

There's no cap. People commonly end up with far, far more planets thatn that on a gigantic galaxy.

If you just installed from the retail discs, it may be a 1.0 bug. You should try the 1.31 patch from the downloads page and see if that fixes it (you'll need to start a new game though to get all of the patch's changes).

Also, make sure your colony ship or constructor have a colony pod or constructor pod. I know once I made a ship without it and was wondering why it didn't make a colony.

Yes, I had this happen when I tried to upgrade a 'core' ship. Some of the pod bits on the core ships are just for decoration.

(sigh)...

Yes, that was the problem. I made new razzu upgrades to my colony, constructor, and frieghter ships - I made them faster with greater range. However, they were missing the required modules.

I am really enjoying the game. The ship building interface is annoying, though. It has been non-intuitive making upgrades:

- When selecting a ship to upgrade, it would be nice if you start with that ship and all it's current upgrades.
- When working on a design, it would be nice to have an intuitive way to remove a an upgrade. That's code, for "I haven't figured out yet how to remove an added upgrade". I'm sure you can, and I'll find it, but for now I'm annoyed it's not easier...

I'll get over it, though. I'm off to yet again redesign my ships...

Thanks, all.

First, in version 1.31, there should be an option to keep all existing parts when upgrading a ship design, instead of only keeping jewelery. Second, when building ships, there should be 3 buttons at the top right corner of the screen. These buttons should be: show all parts, show all functional parts, and show all jewelery. It should be easier to select the functional parts from the list at the top by selecting "show all functional parts".

I hope this helps.

Just click on the Remove button when a part is selected to delete it. And if it's upgrading without doing everything again that you're looking for, look in the Game Options/Settings for the right button.
