Rav's Babylon 5 Mod - 0.4

INSTALL
1. Unzip the mod
2. Copy the mod folder to ..\GalCiv2\Mods\
3. Start GalCiv2
4. Choose the mod folder from the options dialog
5. Restart GalCiv2
6. Click the 'clear' button after selecting your race
7. Click the 'clear' button after selecting your race

i have'nt had the change to play this latest version, but i loved em all and before mods on gc2 i was putting them ships from the downloads in the game to make my own b5 world. great job man and people   absolute rocket

Downloaded it last night, Will definatly be spending my weekend playing it. I might even pull out my old recordings of B5 and watch them while I do

@General Varro: The only core designs remaining in the mod are survey and colony ships. Go to the shipyard, choose a cargo hull and add a construction or trade module to build freighters or constructors.

To make the core designs more useful it would be better to have the components few and far between with most of the upgrades via ability increases... but that's a can of worms in itself and I am on my way to a training course in Sweden. Yay for work sponsored overseas trips! Actually, I only just managed to get 0.4 uploaded a couple of hours before I had to jump on a plane

I'll be back to modding (and playing!) galciv2 in a few weeks, it will be good to attack it with a fresh mind. It has been burning a hole in the back of my mind since stuffing up 0.3 a little. I would be very interested to hear how the Shadows and Vorlons go - they are starting to significantly diverge from the other races so there will be a bit of fine tuning required.

I believe in 0.4 vorlons and shadows don't have colony ships, they have to conquer.

Bug Report!
(I hope that this is the right place)
First I want to say that I have had a great deal of fun with this mod.
Unfortunately, something is going wrong with the advanced factories. The discription is right, they show up on the planetary summary, but thet are not actually added into the production totals.
Exploit
Also, if you play the custom race, you can get just about anything you want in trade for the hull techs.

@Darthfalz: Vorlons and Shadows no longer have access to the colony module. They still get a colony ship at the start but they can't build any more unless they can manage to grab the 'Colonial' tech from another race before all the planets are claimed.

@Scintor: I haven't changed any of the buildings so your problem with factories probably isn't coming from this mod.

Tech trading of hull techs is obviously a very weak ploy on the part of any player. The AI value is set high so that the AIs avoid trading the hull techs amongst each other but this also makes the techs valuable when traded. I don't really have a proper solution to the problem yet but perhaps when the hulls start to diverge more (yes, I am planning on further refining the hull stats for each race) then it wont be in the player's interest to trade hull techs because then the AI can build ships it otherwise wouldn't have access to. At the moment the minors cannot build huge hulls unless they get a foreign hull tech and a couple of majors skip certain classes unless they get a foreign hull tech.

i may have a problem
it seems that in larger hulls there are used larger parts. like engines: small hulls-engines weight is up to 12, larger hulls-up to 30 (i think).
is that a bug or was it meant this way?

if you want to add more bab5 feel into the mod maybe you should use the names and the description of the techs from here

When B5 came out (TV Series) i was happy with it. I use to watch TNG Series but i got bored watching it, but still i love Star Trek. Anyway i wanted to say i am more into B5 than anything else as long it is setup properly, infact look at Star Trek 2 Mod it a whoppin 1.19GB to download and it is worth it.

Beside i am playing Star Trek 2 more than anything else here... becuz it is good mod.

What i am trying to say is please improve B5 Mod some more... gonna need Sound Track Themes (I might can help you there). Need some videos as well to make it more like B5. The ships are great just need to adjust the way to play the game and make it feel like the real B5.

I have a HUGE collection on B5 Series as well Sound Tracks so i might can help you there when i get a chance.

I installed the MOD last night and am amazed by the detail incorporated into it and I started playing as the Earth Alliance. But I couldn't think out how to build Colony Ships and I found out that you need the Colonial trait which Earthforce doesn't have.

Is this intentional??? Like the Shadows and Vorlons, that the EA have conquer, steal or trade this tech from another race before they can start establishing colonies. This puts them at a serious disadvantage.

I installed the mod, just got done playing the first part of my Ranger Campaign. I have to say that this is by far one of the best mods I have played. The level of detail is amazing.

The Minbari are by far the most expansive atm, they are heming me in on all sides with colonies. Is there any way to slow down the rate at which the AI expands? or get them to build something other then colony ships.

Awesome mod though.

Does anyone know if its possible to create your own scenario? I would be very interested in doing on usign this mod as a base.

I made a media pack for this mod back when ver .2, however rav needs to add his RaceConfig.xml with the new additions, since mine is based on .2, and i dont know what has changed since then, rav, you have my permission to use the media pack, and edit the xml to your heart content. I only request that u give credit where its due

Yo Spax, I incorporated your naming scheme into the raceconfig file a while ago so all your existing videos should still work. Need some for recently added races though if you're still feeling the B5 love

As for incorporating sound and video in to the base mod... not going to happen. To be honest, I don't even have the sound (let alone movies) on when I play the game. I think that the most bang for buck modding is in the hulls, techs, components, starting systems and racial stats. There are other things like anomolies, static event screens, starbases and alignment choice events that I intend to work on eventually - I just don't think that a video I am likely to skip past anyway is worth increasing the download size by over 20 times. Model importers (Coplann, Vorlone, Robalis and Voltron) have done much of the legwork for me and Spaxspore's media addon is fantastic for people who enjoy the movies... but don't forget that this is a one man mod team.

Different mods will focus on different things and likely head in different directions. If there is something you believe is sorely missing then feel free to make an addon - I will help you any way I can, it's all about choice

@Entillzha: Earthforce does have the Colonial tech, it sounds like you might have forgotten to reset your race by clicking clear after choosing a race. Those freakin raceconfig files that get saved in '...my documents\my games\galciv2' are a real pain.

This is a known problem that has plagued many mods, there has to be a better way for SD to make the game save custom races? For now I'll just reiterate:

Those freakin raceconfig files that get saved in '...my documents\my games\galciv2' are a real pain.


I circumvented that problem by renaming this specific galciv2 directory prior to starting a fresh game with the 04 mod. A new galciv2 directory was created after starting the game. And Spax's movies are still working prefectly for me.
The only thing I noticed is that upon choosing the custom race it doesn't show Galen's pic initially.

weird that you have to hit clear button twice, noticed i couldnt build colony ships and i checked the tech tree... something odd going on. So i knew something was wrong.

yeah um fairly certain that was just a bit of sarcastic repetition to stress the point
because the races are changing a fair bit between versions those autosave race config files are a killer

Well i have fix the problems so dont have to clear at all. Beside i noticed some of these races are way too advanage so i decreases their abilities some. For instance all the minor races have high weapons, defenses, research and soldiering so i kill that. I also made all major races changed too, so they cannot colonize nothing only thru Diplomacy or Invasion.

The map should be played on Giganitc along with rare habitable planets, Abundant of stars and planets. Scattered Stars is good, this will lead the minor civilizations to expand on there own (not us). Technology should be normal rate.

I havent had the chance to clean up the mess, noticed there cargo models for all major races; IE There is Earth Alliance Cargo/Freighter in all major races and sure hope i dont see a vorlon or even shadow running around in the galaxy lol.

Hope this will balanced things out.
