subspace annihilator missing

I'm playing the latest 1.3. I've just researched subspace annihilator, but it doesn't show up as a possible weapon in the starport when I'm building ships.

There's an old thread, started in May, that said it was missing. Nobody at Stardock responded, so I'm posting my debug file here. This debug file comes after I closed the game (it froze) by pulling the battery out of my computer and restarting.

Apologies if this has been covered, but I couldn't find it with a search of the forums.

Subspace Annihilator has nothing to do with any game freeze. It wasn't in the game in v1.2 and I don't think it's been added in v1.31 but I haven't got to that level in my first v1.31 game yet.

Subspace Annihilator is just padding to require a bit more research to get to Doom Ray.

Mumble, it might not have to do with the freeze, and I'm sorry if I implied that. It's just that it took my 20-odd weeks to research it, and then it added nothing to my weapons. If it's on the tech tree, I think we can agree that it should do something, or at least BE something, no? Maybe you were savvy to the fact that it didn't REALLY exist, but I wasn't. In fact, I tend to use beam weapons, and I'm pretty sure I've seen it before. But I've been playing since 1.0, so I'm not sure when it disappeared. Anyway, it's gone now, in the latest version, which, as I understand it, isn't a beta. In other words, it should be there, or it shouldn't be on the tree. Simple as that.

So, I just happened to have a saved game that had researched all the way up to the Doom Ray. According to the research screen, the Subspace Annihilator technology does not yield a new ship component, it only gives the Future Tech of Doom Ray. Plus, there wasn't one available in my shipyard.

Oddly, I also noticed that despite being higher on the research tree, the Subspace Blaster does less damage and takes up more space than the Disruptor 3. Curious, that.

Thanks, Gothsheep, you totally answered my question and showed me that Mumble had the right idea. I wasn't paying attention when I researched it, most likely.

Sorry to have posted a debug on this, all!

There is no entry for it in the GC2Types.xml file, even though it is included in TechTree.xml.

It should either be taken out of TechTree.xml, or added in to GC2Types.xml.

Easy enough to do if you are playing only non-metaverse games, but the devs should not let such a glaring omission go unresolved.

Moosetek, I kind of like the idea that it's something that could be missed if you're not paying attention to the research text. After all, Doom Ray is pretty damned awesome, and so to split the research up into a couple of long pushes seems quite reasonable. The fact that I missed it is due to my own negligence, and if others miss it, then that's what happens if you don't read the reports or look at relevant text. Think about the fact that you're running a large empire of many billions of people. Many things are vying for your attention. It's possible that, like a Reagan type of guy, you could easily overlook the scientifically proven fact that what you're researching isn't feasible for a damned long time (Star Wars, anyone?). At least Doom Ray exists!

So are you saying Sub An should be added to GC2Gypes.xml for modding reasons? They don't need it there if it doesn't exist.

All I was saying is that if there is a tech for it there should be a matching weapon as well, since the tech describes the weapon as a new weapon, not as an interim tech on the way to Doomray.

I agree that the Doomray is vastly superior, but that is beside the point.

I added the Subspace Annihilator part as well as a "Subspace Decimator" on the path to Doom Ray, for the purpose of having the same number of beam techs as mass driver techs.

But why must all be equal? There's a trick to the beam weapons. That's all I'm saying. If it doesn't fit with the way you think, then mod it. But I like it, even though I reported a bug!

Good gaming.

All I know is that I had to get the Doom Ray, since I play as a modified version of the Terran Empire, the Empire of Doom! Lead, naturally, by Dr. Doom.
