Just a minor idea for the game, this one or the next

Partialy Nationstates inspired

Wouldn't it be neat if, every certain number of years(depending on the number of races), you could choose one thing from a list of 3 or so different proposals and submit it to the United Planets to be voted on?

Just an idea I had, I have no idea if it's at all workable. If someone else has submitted an idea which is similar, I'm sorry but the search engine didn't work so I had no way of knowing.

Tell me what you think! ^^

its a good idea, and i think someone has brought this up before... if i recall correctly their idea was to have each race be able to submit the thing up for vote once every X number of years (X being equivalent to how many races were playing) I.E. if you had 9 opponents, once every ten years you would get to submit a question (if you didn't kill a race off before then)

personally i like the idea of every once in a while being able to influence what is up for grabs in the UP

The only problem I see with this idea is, how long do most games really take? I don't think I've had a game thats lasted more then 5 years and I played a tough game on a huge map with 9 AI. So while it would be great to have some control of the questions in UP, it would only get to your turn once or twice during the game (unless I'm killing the AI increadbly fast); depending on when you get your turn to submit a question.

I still like the idea, though I can't think of a good way to implement it right now.

maybe instead of one question a year the UP should have 3 or 5... i mean honestly, the leaders of the great races of the universe meet together once a year, whether they are at war or not, just to vote on ONE question?

I think there should just be more UP meetings. One every 13 or 25 turns would be fine. Especially if the option to buy votes for a single meeting was available.

I agree. You should be able to have a say in what will be voted on in the UP.

It wouldn't even have to happen every game, though. It'd be a lot like a random event, except that you could make it happen to someone else.

I don't like the idea of too many UP meetings, though. Each issue adds something unique to the game, and if there were 2-3 issues per year then every game would end up with the same rules eventually. Not that it shouldn't be an option, of course.

I would settle for just knowing agenda of next UP meeting in advance (couple of weeks?), so I can try to at least buy enough influence if the topic of some importance. Next step could be a diplomatic options to buy / sell my vote on upcoming issue.

--- Or sell it. I know what I am, I just want to set price.

Perhaps there should be two votes per year: A Mid-Year vote to decide the issue, and the End-Year vote which would work normally.
