Troop Transports idea

I am trying to find out how these things work. As far as i have been able to figure out only one of the transport ships gets destroyed/dismantled after the invasion, and the guys in that ship populize the planet.
My question is why only one and only one ship is used up, not all, or none at all? Becoz this led me to build up tiny ships that has triple thrusters and one troop pod underneath, so that i can evade the loss of a transport ship as much as i can. But i would really like that ship not to disappear since both for management and as a concept i very much rather gigantic troop carriers that can carry about 12 billion troops. They are both scary and kinda more effective. But losing one of those ships that cost a lot really hurts.
IMO these troop droppers should be reusable, and no ship should disappear at the end of the invasion.

One way this could work if the game diveded between military and civilian population. This way, both the attacking and defending forces would be smaller, and there would be population left over on the planet. There would be no need to destroy the transport because a tax base already exsits. This idea can be expanded to include a large variaty of other things, but that would be off topic.

As it is however, the Transport needs to be destroyed because there needs to be a tax base on the planet. All the population are kill, or perhaps enslaved, so the troops need to pay taxes.

For your question about the ships left over after a battle.

It is based on the number of troops you have remaining. For example: if you have 3 combat transports each carrying 1000 troops and you invade a planet and have 2500 troops left over, you will have 2 ships.

If you ended up with 1999 troops left, you will have one ship. And then the extra 999 people become your population.

Personally I design my ships to carry 3 to 4 thousand troops, depending on it I had been able to complete the Quir-qon (sp?) training. As long as you have a decent advantage in combat, you will be able to take out planets with populations up to around 9 - 10.
For bigger planets, I group 2 or 3 transports together.

Not necessarily. You can send a fully-laden transport or colony ship to friendly planets and they merely drop off their cargo and stay in orbit. The invading Transport could do the same. Load it with a single unit of Troops and send it back to a more populous planet in your empire.

Sure, there must be some population on the planet in the end, u r right about it. But it can be taken from all the troop transports in the fleet. An action like loading a troop transport can be introduced, like "how many ppl you want to leave on the planet?"

Or we can make the troops disembark to the surface but can leave 1 million ppl on board. (i do it, when i run around my troop carriers, collecting soldiers. I only put 1 million person when i launch it from the starport that constructed it)

Heh, as you see i am not inclined to losing ships and production It may be so becoz i am an engineer, but anyway. Any idea if there is a way to build small ships in batches? (more than 1 in one turn if u have the production capability)
