Over at CivFanatics.com we had a contest for players to submit their own characters to be integrated into Dark Avatar.


The response was excellent. In fact, they were beyond excellent which brings us to the couple day delay and narrowing down the winners.


Because there were so many good entries, we're going to expand the prizes beyond what we had originally said so that there will be more people receiving prizes.


Also, because some of the ideas are so good and interesting, I'm seeing how much of the story can be altered and adding some new specific features in order to put them in.


Some of the concepts submitted are so interesting that they've inspired some new features to be added to the expansion pack.


So anyway, we're working on it. Should be today or by end of day Friday at the latest.

I agree with everyone else. Take your time with the expansion. Even though I want it NOW, I know that if we wait and let it turn into what you guys envision, it will be so much better. I am definitely NOT against a public beta for those who pre-ordered, either.    Looking forward to an announcement.

Take your time. In my years as a gamer, I've seen too many games rush to production, cuting important features or needing massive patches.

Oh we're not talking about cutting features. We can make our date no problem with the currently listed features. It's the extra features that we want to put in that we have to decide on.

Well, personally, I wouldn't participate in the Beta. That's like peeling back the wrapping paper and taking a sneaky look at your presents on Christmas Eve.   

How are you going to make sure people won't just keep the Beta on their system and not buy the expansion?

But there may be some repricussions. How would players feel about a public beta of Dark Avatar even if that means delaying the official release? What if it meant more features?

Theres one thing I don't get though:

hy is stardock so poor(money wise). Its aleady made the best strategy game ever made and is working on a really AWESOME expansion.
But why is it still poor?

Those people at firefly made stronghold 2(plus 1). I can't deny that stronghold 2 was the most realistic and fun castle building strategy game ever but it didn't make as many sales as galciv2 and it was cheaper. But the firefly people still had enough to make a huge(money wise) gamble at civcity:rome which was a huge failure.
And were still left with enough money to make stronghold:Legends(or something like that). Just dosen't make any sense.

I'd be happy with a public beta. I'd like to see all of you have the time you need to implement all the features you would like to. The list of features is already impressive so I'd love to see what else you come up with. Of course, I've already ordered the expansion...

EDIT: I'm glad they're taking a look at some of the mechanics that were suggested in the character descriptions. They were very interesting and could be expanded to other things!

Ahh, the wait is killing me.   And since I live in Norway its 6 hours later than EST. Have to wait all day for you guys to get out of bed. Just wondering, if i win will there be a problem with the prizes since I live in Norway? I Can always download the prize but would like to have the box as well. I know you have a distributing deal with a Swedish company, maybe i can get it from there. Anyway hope you implent my cloaked spyships and/or my wormhole creating spacestations and the characters would be nice as well. Oh and take your time finishing the game, and beta would be great

Too sad it's finished... I would have submitted:

Cikomyr, Torian Slave Scientist

Cikomyr usually propose ideas of implimentation of high-technologies at the wrong time. For example:
When you just researched Plasma 1, he proposes a ship equipped with the powerful Phasor II to be "eventually implimented".

He doesn't care that his ideas are years before being put into work, he just love to propose ideas.

It's not about them being poor, they just want to release games that are almost perfect and a late release would tarnish their record of perfection. I wouldn't mind a beta since I missed the one for GC2.
