Carriers, Carriers and more Carriers

Not sure where to post this so I am placing it here where the original thread was locked. ( I couldn't apologize ) So I will do it publically.

Quixen, reviving threads just to antagonize another user isn't going to lead to just *his* head imploding (*brandishes the 'discipline' stick*). It also needlessly makes work for me and clutters the front page with YET ANOTHER thread on the same topic. If anyone wants to discuss carrier ideas, there are already plenty of recent threads for that. As for this one, I am sending it back to the murky depths from whence it came.


I was not meaning to make more work for you sir, I humbly apologize. I was not intending to antagonize Marcathonas with my comments. I found the threads amusing by way of comments made within them and decided to try and find some old threads and bring them to the forefront so other users (those who are unaware and do not know how to search for them)could see just how many there actually were on the subject. If anything, I agree with Marcathonas just not as harshly. I am glad that my work shift was over and it was time for me to go home, otherwise I would have continued until every last carrier thread had been resurrected from the "murky depths" in which they lie and cluttered the face of the "Game Talk" forum.

Again, I do apologize sir. And ummm.... you do not have to hit me with the discipline stick.

Because it gets mentioned far too often for ideas to add to GalCiv2, despite the pointing out of the fact that the devs just don't have the time to both code the things in mechanically, and make sure the AI will make use of them... as well as for them to add any worthwhile gameplay. As it stands, I agree with the devs that, as GalCiv2 is, such a ship type would not be all that revolutionary.

And maybe, just maybe, you could see them whenever GalCiv3 is... but for now.. not happening unless someone manages to mod any one of the ideas put forth.

I personally like the 'Tanker' (aka Mobile Starbase) idea, where you can have a 'Tanker' class vessel that can extend ship range. It should not function on its own supplied range, and rely entirely on proper planets and starbases, for the sake of limiting them and keeping them from just traveling out into the middle of space with a fleet. They should just be 'relayers' of support/supply, not generators.

I suppose the AI would have some trouble making use of this, but it'd likely be easier than working with proper carriers.

You can have a carrier right now.

Team a huge hull with 10 or so tiny hulls in a fleet.
All fighters will be in a "combat air patrol" mode.

No problem. Just don't revive dead threads for no good reason in the future (especially carrier threads...).

In light of the last couple of comments on this thread, I'm going to make sure this one doesn't become *another* carrier thread...
