Bigger ships?

Has anyone asked?

I realize this is pretty obvious, but it is odd that no one seems to be asking for bigger hulls. The HUGE hulls are pretty slow to make, so obviously a "GIGANTIC" hull would have to be very slow. It might be fun, though, striking fear into the hearts of your enemies with something it took years to build. If they were, say 120-150 spaces, and took 3x as long to build as a HUGE hull, they wouldn't be horribly debalancing to the game.

I dunno... anyone think that would be fun?

There have been a number of people asking about/modding in yet bigger hulls. A search for Gigantic should turn them up.

A Gigantic sized hull would be sweet, but there would have to be a limit as to how many could be made aswell as a huge time limit, say like one. And when you have the best Miniturisation, Huge hulls end up haveing 150 spaces anyway, so It would need more than that, im going to go out on a limb and get shot down by the pro's and say somthing starting on 170 maybe and with the good miniturisation going on to 210+

That would be sweet, although I'm not sure about you guys, but im mindful of cost in building somthing, and Huge hulled ships take age's for me to build anyway, because I try and cram as many things onto them as I can, which normaly means alot of cost for small components!

Still, its a nice idea!

For the Senator:
A search on "gigantic" tuned up some posts on galaxy size and a few others but nothing on ship size. The search funtion on these forums does work, but it has taken some getting use to and new posters may not have much luck finding the info they want. This often leads to repeat posts on the same topic.

I modded my game to have a Gigantic hull. I changed Huge Hull 2 into Gigantic Hull and added "Ultimate Hull Building" and "Gigantic Scale Building" to the techtree. Mine has 75 hp, a base cost of 220 and a size of 110 (the Huge has 50 hp, a base cost of 160 and a size of 80). The logistics for my mod are: Tiny=2, Small=3, Medium=4, Cargo=5, Large=6, Huge=7, Gigantic=8. But I would like to have 3 more ships for each race to be Gigantic. All I have done is prove that it can/will work.

A planet with 10 factories, and a couple of econ starbases can crank out a huge hull in no time, I don't know what you are all talking about. I like that they increased logistics for huge to 8, a bigger hull should have a massive logistics cost for play balance.

It wouldn't necessarily "need" more than that... mineaturization bonuses will affect a "GIANT" hull like any other. If you get a huge hull to go from 80 to 150, a 120 space giant hull should go to 225. If you start with 170, it goes to 319, which is getting to the point where it would take too much time to put all the danged systems on the hull!

dunno if i would use them much, i usually stay at the medium hull for pretty long.

Tru, I didn't think it out too much did I, just saying that even though a ships hull looks tiny, miniturisation can make it be able to fit alot more than people imagined, especly if you get the Hyperonian Shrinkerizer. Great upgrade!

I'd imagine that miniaturization bonuses would hurt pretty bad on a Gigantic hulled ship. Considering:

1) the effect of miniaturization is to increase the number of hull spaces
2) systems have a size based on a fixed number + a percentage of the base hull size

If miniaturization takes the hull from 120 to 225 spaces, then a doom ray (10+6%) will go from taking 18 to 24 spaces and hyperwarp III engines (5+5%) go from 11 to 17.

(note, size numbers are from Galactopedia 1.5.2 and may be different in the Gal Civ 1.3 release.)

Hyperonian

'Hyperion' ... It's a name from Greek mythology. Also used for the name of the class of Battlecruiser used by the Terrans in StarCraft, and many other things.

Miniaturization has been fixed in 1.3 to use the base hull size. So the sizemod factor is lessened as a result.

Miniturization no longer causes parts to "grow" in 1.3. The % is still there, but it is based on the non-miniturized hull size regardless of your mini ability. So if a part takes 18 on a given hull, it will always take 18 on that hull.

Personally, I would like to have gigantic ship. But it should be possible to make only one. That would be mothership. make it either really expensive, or unique. pride of civilization, a flagship.

Your guns can never be too big, you can never have too many tanks. Words of wisdom. Same for starships lol.

Speak softly, but carry a big ol' planet-killer gun in case they don't like your talk.

You don't need a limit for this - it should be so that the cost/logistics is the factor that keeps you from building too many of them. And then it would be really nice if you got to accomplish around three of them to impress your enemies which maybe could only build one, or maybe not even that...

I don't like the thought of an artificial limit on them, but I do like the idea of larger ships. Maitanence, building cost, and building time should be the factors controlling their existance. If the computer can build them too it should not be unbalancing.

Can you guys plz tell me what files I edit to make bigger hull sizes or have any of you made a mod I can dl for this plz..
