Galactic Civilizations II v1.31 released

Bug zapping

https://www.galciv2.com/Downloads.aspx

Stardock has released Galactic Civilizations II v1.31.  Last week's release of 1.3 included a ton of new features, gameplay tweaks, and re-balancing.  But in the hundreds of changes crept in a handful of annoying bugs that got past us.

Those bugs included a mini map display bug that caused repainting issues on DualCore machines, an annoying change to how ships were selected when they left orbit (not reported by users but trust us, it was annoying), the hot key support of deleting would crash the game if you deleted something that wasn't there, planety quality not matching the user selected bonus, and a food bonus tile exploit.

There were also a few AI tweaks to make them handle money even better based on reading people's posts on the forums on some of the tricks they use to maximize their economy.

You can download the update via Stardock Central (preferred) or the stand alone download.

and a food bonus tile exploit

Huh ?? How is that an exploit ? It was a bug. (was an annoying one too)
It could only be used for an exploit during the same session. Once the game was saved and reloaded the tile went back to normal.

Ya, it was an annoying bug more than anything else.

Was the Planet Quality bug fixed?

Yes.
That was one of the things in the change log, and it seemed to be fine in my last game (first game with 1.31).

Stardock, you are the developers/publishers with the BEST customer support i've ever seen. That makes me extremely positive about buying future releases, including expansions.

Keep up the great work guys

Oh the classic version 1.31. Brings back memories. It's the version where all the microprose games stopped for some reason, though they were stable and stuff by that time.

I ilke the fast support, but ironically my GalCiv2 now always crashes after a few minutes. It was fine with 1.3
Is there a downgrade available as well ?

I, and I believe others, am interested in the details.

I should be finishing my v1.2 Metaverse game, so I'll be able to retest three bugs I have noticed and reported under v1.2.
(1) starbases mining resources (I have not tried with other types of starbases) defenses did not benefit from my defense bonus (just my attack and hit point bonuses)
(2) if my single ship attacked an enemy ship or fleet and both were destroyed, instead of my ship surviving with just 1 HP and would have full health (sometimes that meant it had more HP than before the attack)!
(3) once a Drengin planet culture flipped to me but its planetary defender remained in orbit

Anyone seen these bugs in v1.3 or v1.31?

Thanks, Guys, for the quick turnaround on fixing the patch!

TO Cari Elf:

Hi There is new reports of bugs over in the forum that you should check out since the update to 1.31, if you haven't already of course, and please look at the particular article from Jim Ryan, there is two cases in there, one of his case and mine that I talk about that needs to be fixed since this update. It is the forum article in support and bugs called, "Missing Ship Component Icons..." Please Let us know, thanks again for the hardwork Stardock!!-Viithtrump

food bonus tile exploit.

Didya break something when you did this? I had a 300% food tile but when I put Xeno Farming on it I got no extra food production at all?! Luckily this was fixed by saving the game and quitting and restarting.

This is likely the result of an older problem that I believe has always been there. Think back to the turn when that farm finished. Did you start building a Xeno Farm, but on the turn it finished building, did you also finish researching the next level of farm tech?

The long-standing problem is that when you finish an improvement and simultaneously research or trade for the next level building's technology, the newer building type gets built, but it produces nothing until you restart the game.

Try testing it in a new game by researching the Factory-level industrial tech while building a Basic Factory on one of your planets. Note the planet's production level while that factory is building. Now finish building the Basic Factory on the same turn as you get the new factory tech. Look at your production - it has not increased at all. Save and restart the game - presto, you have more (the correct level of) production.

This problem is the same with all building types that produce anything.

I want the Morale nerfing to be reversed. There shouldn't be diminishing returns for every Virtual Reality Center you build. Think of it as morale only going so high because those Centers are filled to capacity. Then a new center gets built so more people get to be happy. Therefore, the returns shouldn't diminish.

Also, there's something about the governments that was nerfed too. Instead of 75% bonunses for the Federation, it's now just 30. Can that be changed back too, please? Changing them back isn't like trying to add a Z-Axis to a playable galaxy map.

Egao, I agree.

Too much of the beginning of the game is fighting morale and economy problems.

Ah thanks MarshallONeil that sounds like what happened to me, good to know its an existing reported bug not a new one

Actually, they weren't nerfed.
They have always given 10%, 20% and 30% economic bonus which was apparent to anyone who took a look at their taxes before and after changing government (or read certain posts in this forum like me).
It's the information in the Civilization Manager that has been wrong since 1.0, it took Stardock a while to correct it.

Will have to see if the game now works - only installed yesterday, though, so no offence . So far everything here seems quite well (so - thanks for the update from me, too).
Most propably, though, I'll have to search for updates for my somewhat old system (graphics driver from 2001, anyone? - lol ) ... or wait til the problems with my newer PC are solved...

Those government bonuses that indicated 25%, 50% and 75% were never actually in the game from the beginning (or at least since v1.0). The description said one thing, but they were never enabled to do it.

They can be added by modding, though, for non-Metaverse games.

A bit OT, but still:

Why is it that you prefer updates through StarDock, but did NOT include it on the CD?

Well,

A) It costs money and take effort to change what's being stamped to all those CDs you're having made at whatever production plant you're using. More than uploading some files to a server, for sure.

B) The whole "you only need your CD key for updates" thing would be totally useless if stardock made a habit of including every new update on a CD.
