GalCiv 2 crashing

Hi
I'm running version 1.3 of the game, and it keeps crashing on me. This only happens at a specific stage (I press 'end turn' part-way through the game, and it crashes. I load up the save game previoulsy, and get back to the same turn and it crashes in exactly the same way).
Here is my debug.err:

There was a 1.3A update Friday night--try that.

I've just updated...and it still crashes just as I research Shields.

In that case, please install 'SmartException' from the Stardock Central program. Make sure that the program is running and then start your game as normal. If the game crashes it will generate an Exception report that can be emailed to [email protected] along with your debug.err. This will enable the devs/help team to see what is causing the error and hopefully provide you with a solution to your issue.

FWIW I have the same issue, 1.3A. Exception report sent to gc2bugs.

First game I've been winning in ages - hope they can fix it!

I've done that, sent off an exception report. One of my friends has had the problem as well.

Well, some questions related with a specific 1.3 bug ( see https://forums.galciv2.com/?forumid=274&aid=129932 ):

- are you playing the english version or a translated one?

- are you using some mods that modify the file english.str?

- have you attacked/been attacked by a foe with some ships defeated as result?

- I'm running the English version
- I don't have any mods on, apart from a few custom ships off the library
- I've just finished slaughtering the Torians, I led a short but brutal campaign against them with many ships destroyed on both sides.

And I've just updated, and the patch still doesn't solve the problem...

I bought the game 2 days ago and I have the same problem. when I press "end turn" , at a moment, the game crashes and when I attack someone with my ships, it crashes to.
I use french version on winXP

Morphokiller, you should look at the link mentionned in reply 6

If you have a saved game that always crashes, please send the saved game to [email protected].  If we can catch the crash in action, it will be easier for us to find the problem.  Thanks.

Havarel,

Did you get a resolution in the end? I've been trying a few things without any success - will have to wait for SD to have a look at it I guess.

SOryy I've been a bit slow replying, my access to the inet is a bit irregular at the moment. Well, the good news is it no longer crashes at a set place...the bad news is it now randomly crashes. I'll send my savegames to the email address, and I'll try another game and see if thats as bad.

I'm having problems with CTD's too with the 1.3 and 1.31. Got the european english version. Before applying patch 1.3 I did a fresh install. (Did a reinstall of windows earlier).

It's happening at 'end-turn', 'save game' and 'load game'. The strange thing is that sometimes it crashes at loading a specific game and after a restart it loads ok. That could be a random event. But at saving there are no events triggered. Could it be caused by corrupted 'user-defined' ship files?

Any ideas what you did to stop it crashing in the same place (end turn) every time?

(Mine has always randomly crashed but usually after 3 hours or so of play so I don't mind the break!)

Argh..i really can't type sorry...

Anyway, I've had an email from Cari explaining it's a problem with the AI crashing, and that Brad is looking into it.

And all i did was to start a new game, then reload my previous game (which bought it a few more turns).

No worries Havarel; thanks for that. Will wait to see what Cari finds from my saves.

Take it easy mate.

Dang I never seen these things resolved. Mine crashes when I research shields too.

It might help if you also post your debug.err and send in SmartException logs to [email protected].

I'd rather not download more software if someone in tech support has already heard of the problem and found a typical answer.

Hmmm....I've just been checking to see if this problem has been fixed, and can't see anything about it being fixed (I would playtest it, but it only appears in 15-20 hour games, which I currently don't have time for), so unless I have confirmation GC2 will remain dormant.

The AI crashes were one of the things on the fixlist for 1.4, so you may want to try and see.
