MOO3 to end up boosting GalCiv sales? :)

MOO3 to end up boosting GalCiv sales? :)

Hey everyone, I'm completely new here....I just found out about this game on Monday. Want to know how?

Yep, you guessed it...I bought MOO3, played it for about 6 days, realized I wasn't having any *fun* playing it, continued to read on the IG forums about the many people not having fun with it, and finally stumbled across a thread along the lines of "I'll be waiting for Galactic Civilizations." Curious, I read the thread and then followed a link to this site. I continued reading, here, learning about the game and now that I've returned MOO3 (exchanging it for Simcity 4, actually), I'm eagerly awaiting GalCiv. It really does look like it will have the "soul" that was taken out of MOO3 (as other people have said in various places). I especially love the whole Good/Evil angle and the choice you get to make in the game to influence that. That is such a GREAT idea! :)

Anyway, I mainly wanted to say hi and to let you know that you've just gotten another sale do to the whole MOO3 debacle. And to also note that I think MOO3's disappointing debut will send a lot of sales your way. I've seen posts on various forums suggesting people should check out GalCiv if they're refugees from what MOO3 turned out to be. The biggest one I just noticed was a plug on www.gonegold.com (which I think quite a lot of people read). As the guy who tells about "Deals of the Week" is mentioning a sale price on MOO3, he goes on to say that after reading so many impressions of MOO3, he's decided to wait and pick up GalCiv instead....and he gives a link here, of course.

So, as it turns out, you guys may end up doing quite well with this game thanks to MOO3. ;)

Be seeing you all around.

I certainly believe the massive failure of MOO3 will make GalCiv an even bigger seller.

To tromikus:

I believe the player can fiddle with some sliders hidden somewhere in the UI, which say what kind of things will be researched. But these are still fairly general, and are along the lines of "military", "industrial", etc. Whether "military" means weapon techs, ship techs, or whatever, is out of your control I think.

I think the sliders just control how how money is put into each research sector. If anything, I wish it was more like the Civ3 Tech-tree.

Sign me to the above group of disappointed MOOers... Sadly MOO3 turned out to be awful! Awaiting still another *last hope* for TBS games.... I hope GalCiv it'll be! One game I wasted my money on is enough! :sniff!:

As far as I'm concerned, as a loyal MOO fan for years, if GalCiv cleans Quicksilver's clock. Some of the responses they have given indicate they knew the community reaction was going to be hostile. They had HOW many years to pull this glorifed spreadsheet off? And yet I saw an interview with Rantz where he said he wanted another two or three years. OMFG!!!!

I have never been as hyped up, nor as let down, as I was over MOO3. I will not return it, however, out of loyalty to the franchise...though not to QS. I have faith that through community additions and mods or, dare I say it, patches from QS, it will eventually, possibly years from now, be playable.

I will be purchasing a copy of Galciv the day it releases to my local EB.

I am yet another disappointed MOO3 fan that found out about this game through posts on their forum. The biggest problem for me with MOO3 is the horrible A.I. Maybe they can patch it and I will give it another try. But one thing I will say that has me really looking forward to GalCiv is the fact that it is single player only. I can't tell you the number of games I have literally trashed because the single-player A.I. was a joke (Sacrifice, Heroes of Might Magic 4, to name a few off the top of my head). And all of these games offered mutliplayer as well. I think developers offering both end of letting the A.I. slip to accomodate multiplayer. Look at why MOO3 was delayed for months. The multiplayer needed work. They obviously didn't spend near enough time on testing single player before the release so you got a terrible single player game.

GalCiv being 100% single player is looking very very promising. :)

And GalCiv's cultural influence steals yet another fan from MOO3. Yep, that's me.

MOO3 has a lot of unrealized potential. It was ok to play - until I read how you could survive on Impossible without building a military.. ouch.. took all the desire to play from me. It went back and I picked up SC4 as a time waster.

Then I saw GalCiv mentioned in the forums, came here - and remembered dismissing it when I first viewed the site about 6 months ago (I think) when I picked up The Corporate Machine. I wasn't really impressed with the quick look I took back then, but after lurking here for a week and reading more - I'm hooked. Drooling. I can't wait for it to be released.

The devs have class - a semi-open beta with no NDA. Updates on the board. Alexfrog saying the manual doesn't discuss influence enough and admitting it was just stupidity. We're all human and that's an answer I can respect for it's honesty. Shame the QS guys couldn't have done the same.

Thumbs up from me. I'm looking forward to seeing the AI rip me a new one.

As far as MOO fans go, here's my story (some have heard about this before):

I played Master of Orion II on my laptop in the delivery room while waiting for my first born child to be born. I was that addicted to MOO2.

That's the way I look at it too.

That's why for our second kid, let's just say that there was an Internet connection in the delivery room.

The "Birthcam" was controversal admittedly...

I like Moo3 but it wasn't what I expected. I'm going to buy GalCiv because it looks like everything Moo3's not.

MOO3 has lots of problems (old news there). My copy is on its way back to infogrames. So I am hoping and praying that GalCiv will save the day.

For me, Moo3 is not as bad as everyone says it is, though I am expecting GalCiv to be more of the type of game I'm looking for.
Everyone said on the FLAME boards that all you had to do was click end turn and you could win...you dont even need to build warships.
Ha. I must have a different game then.I didnt build a lot of warships because of those boards thinking, hell, I wont get attacked by the weak AI. But I did. No planet invasion forces but those fishfaced things sure wiped out my interception fleet. Guess I should have spent more money on research and more on shipbuilding vs just clicking the end turn button. Their ships blew mine away and now I'm frantically trying to build MASS over quality to see if I can get that dammed fleet out of my system and maybe cause a cease-fire before they come at me with more. It aint so bad folks....
That said, I find myself getting way too exited about GalCivs release. I need to get a life. :d

MOO3 is nothing really exiting. I waited 3 years and I was dissapointed. Mostly, the good things come to you when you are not expecting it. Like my girlfriend and GalCiv :D

Be happy you get to send MOO3 back. I was all worked up to get it, finally arrived and TBH, it's vastly disappointing. The battles I use to love are real time now, tiny blobs for ships and no real control (where's the boarding?) so the tactical dimension of differing designs etc is gone. Here in the dear old UK you can't send things back either.

GalCiv looks good to be sure so far but it's not clear how the battles are worked out from the screenshots (though from reading the example games on the main page it sounds like some sort of automated "you won/lost" type of deal).

I'll wait for the reviews (like I should have done with MOO3).

I've read that the battles are resolved much like Civ and Alpha Centauri. Although you have no control over the battle, I believe you can break off the attack mid-stream.

Moo3 is really as bad as they say.

Funny thing is I loved moo2 so much.

There will be those who won't like GalCiv. Hopefully most users will like it.

We'll know very soon. ;)

LOL yep another MOO3 fan. I have never played a MOO franchise b4 though i LOVED Birth of a Fed.
Question is will there ever be a MOD to multiplayer for GalCiv??? I have 4 other customers for u brad if u ever get around to it :)

Is MOO2 worth buying for the multiplay?
thanks

There are no plans for multiplayer in GalCiv. Singleplayer from the ground up, thank God. I like the idea of playing a couple games at a time, the two hour adventure, and a month long campain. (Playing larger galaxies, increased difficulty etc.)

Seems I'm not alone in being alone...
No, wait that was Sting.

Well, seems I'm not alone in coming here by stumbling over the ad in the MoO box.
However I have to say that what most of you people who are disappointed by MoO3 probably fail to realize is that it's gameplay can be hugely improved by applying the mods available in the Fan Modification Forum on the MoO board.
Still, when I read about GalCiv and checked the homepage I came to think that this game might be more of what I expected of MoO after all. And now I'll be awaiting the review and the release to see if it lives up to the expectations more than MoO did.
So I took the opportunity to register beforehand to participate in the discussions on this forum.

How can I express my absolute disappointment in MOO3? And that interview where Rantz went on about why it failed. Duh!! Instead of making excuses and pointing fingers, then turning around and touting what an excellent game it is, be honest. No one on that team had the intergrity to say hey wait a second, there's a problem here. I wouldn't let and of the key people ever hold the positions they had when developing MOO3 get involved in designing any software in the future.

The interview was smug and the hype weeks before the ramp up was nothing more than a lot of "who shot John" Rantz.

I will certainly be buying GalCiv. So far it looks like what MOO3 should have been. Taking notes here Rantz?
