Help please, game crashes after 1.3 update

Hi guys,

I have the latest Nvidia 91.47 video driver installed. The game runs fine with 1.0, 1.2 and 1.3 beta update, but it crashes with 1.3 (update throught Stardock Central).

I can get to the menu no problem, any button clicking (options, new game etc.) will cause program crash. Hitting ESC key will kick me back to desktop with no error description.

Has anyone get same problem as I do?

Cheers,
Alex

Please go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2 (or wherever you installed the game at), open the debug.err file you find there in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem.

Also,
please install 'SmartException' from the Stardock Central program. Make sure that the program is running and then start your game as normal. If the game crashes it will generate an Exception report that can be emailed to [email protected] along with your debug.err. This will enable the devs/help team to see what is causing the error and hopefully provide you with a solution to your issue.

Alex try deleting 'prefs.ini' from 'my documents/my games/GCII' folder. Then restart the game and see how you fair.

Hi Darth Griffin,

I deleted the Pref.ini and the problem is still there. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Alex

There aren't any messages indicating such, but it's always possible to have gotten somethign corrupted in the download. You may want to try completely uninstalling and reinstalling first. If that doesn't do it, try setting your regional settings in control panel to English (United States). It could be that the Chinese settings there are causing a problem with the game (some of the localization code was changed for other bugs, so it's worth a try). You may also try rolling back to some slightly earlier video drivers--I have heard of issues with the latest ones (I think--I don't have any nVidia cards myself right now to try it).

If none of these suggestions works, the Smart Exception report that you hopefully sent in will allow the devs to try and help you when they are available.

Sounds like a corrupted download.

Install the 1.3 stand alone update and see if that helps.

The otehr thing I nonticed is you're runnig it in Chinese. I'm not sure but perhaps it's possible that has something to do with it. Change your regional settings to English just to see if taht is the culprit.

Thank you kryo and Frogboy. I have changed the regional language setting to English US and now the problem seems to be gone! Thank you all again for the advise.

Alex
