Galactic Civilizations II 1.3 released!

Hundreds of small changes

https://www.galciv2.com/Downloads.aspx

Stardock is proud to announce the release of Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords v1.3.  The new update has hundreds of new tweaks, features, and other enhancements to the existing game based on player feedback.  We've updated the computer AI, we've made changes to game mechanics based on player requests, we've made some enhancements to the user interface and we improved some of the planet graphics.  But overall, what we have tried to do is go through the mountains of suggestions people have given us over the last few months and found ways to implement as many of them as possible.  Unlike 1.2 and 1.1, this new version isn't so much about a handful of major features but rather dozens and dozens of tiny changes that we think when combined help make the game even more fun for players.

Galactic Civilizations II is at most retail stores in North America and Europe so if you don't already have it, you should be able to get it locally.  You can also purchase it directly from GalCiv2.com via TotalGaming.net and download the entire game while your box is shipped to you.

We hope you find this new version to be as fun to play as we had making it.  We've had a good time going through and making some of these changes and finding how even the smallest tweaks to game balance can add new dimensions to game play. You can download the update either in the Downloads section here or from Stardock Central (which enables users to re-download the entire game no matter where purchased even years from now).

You can read all the new features here: Change log.

space shuttle that can get 1000 lines of code right first try,

Yeah and they wrote it in Assembly. And if they found a bug it was easier to rewrite from scratch than to find and fix the bug. Personally, bring on the bugs.

So what's with the blue guy in the upper right corner of the journal? Are you all slipping a teaser in on us?

I notice the homeworld pop has been beefed to 8 billion. I was kind of hoping for something to slow the colony rush. Don't you think this will speed it up?

TO Cari Elf, Hey this is a great and awesome update, which shows that Stardock again proves to be the best in the industry. Now the only thing I want to say about ver 1.3 is: The one thing which I believe and hope is finally out in Dark Avatar to make the game more user friendly especially since 1.3 has not made any update to fix or explain the intro to what a custom made map in definition is for such maps as the chaos, duel, corners, destiny, epic, line, struggle, total war maps etc..., I still don't know what they are and there are no explanations...Now Cari Elf, correct me if I'm wrong on this and let me know because there is still nothing that shows up on the right side in the black box explaining what these are, that is why I haven't played a custom map yet, even though I want to. Please address, thanx Stardock.

This is an odd concept, I know, but why not just try the custom maps and see what they're like? The game you get is the explanation. You could always run it with cheats on and then expose the map to see what it's like if you want.

Just so this comment is seen by someone important, I'm pretty sure there is still an outstanding bug I've been trying to report since the game was released. I'll check this version to see if it's still around, but the changelog didn't mention it ~sigh~.

Make sure you read the LAST POST in that thread, because it took a lot of experimenting during that thread to find out exactly what the bug was.

Again, I'll check for myself, and good day,

[Edit: Well, it appears that somewhere along the way, this exploit/bug was fixed. Wonderful. Maybe it I missed one of the patches.]

Dunno if it's just me, but I've had two problems since updating to v1.3
1) After a few turns, the box showing the area of detail in the minimap starts to leave an image on the minimap anytime I move around on the main screen. Once this starts, it only takes a few turns before my entire minimap is just a big blue blur.
2) In the versions prior to 1.3, if I had multiple ships arriving at a rally point between turns, the "turn" button wouldn't go green until I had given the "guard" order to every ship that had arrived at the rally point. In 1.3, I have to continuously hit "find" in order to proceed to the next ship in the stack to give it an order.

What's the deal here? Thanks for any help, and otherwise seems to be a great update.

I really don't mean to complain, but I think I've mentioned this every patch and it still hasn't been addressed.

The model for the Terran basic constructor is screwed up. The big engine "arm" parts aren't congruent with the rest of the ship. There are also a number of asymmetrical hardpoints throughout the models. There's nothing worse than having a great idea for a ship, only to see it thwarted because a difference of a single degree or pixel becomes glaringly obvious if you extend jewelry out far enough.
