Windowed mode?

I am having some trouble with multitasking while playing GalCiv II -- often, when I switch back and forth with another program, the game will crash.  I had a similar problem with GalCiv I, and I was able to get past it by playing the game in windowed mode.

Is there a similar mode for Galciv II?  If so, how do I activate it?

Just go into the options, and toggle Fullscreen mode off. Restart and the game will open in a window, just be sure your desktop resoultion is higher than the window's size.

When I have fullscreen off the game slows down to a crawl where I can see the screen refreshing... Nothing is crashing though

Yup unless you have a really up to date machine with a serious chipset do not attempt to run this game in windowed mode. Initially you will not see a difference, but start stockpiling ships and the game will slow to a crawl.. or worse.
If you are going to run a window for this game it might pay you to turn the Anti-aliasing down a couple of notches too.
