Hull Type Modding

hey guys.


ok heres what i wanna do.

I wanna expand the hulls tech tree, add a Colossus hull building tech.
then add an extra option in the ship building area to the tiny, medium, large huge.....'colossus'
then create a hull image probably to look like the deathstar.

before I have a go, is it possible, and has anyone done it yet?

Yes, you can do this. I recall someone asking about something similar before but I don't recall anything being posted on the library for it.

The interface will only handle 5 hull styles (Terran, Drengin, Altarian, Torian, Yor), plus the Dread Lords. You can add all the styles you like though if you assign them namually in the race configs and write-protect them.

As to hull types/sizes themselves, there's no limit. You can add all the hulls you like.

Category tag is what you're wanting. The game will automaticly put a new tab in for it.
Don't think the AI will use ships from nonstandard categories though.

Yep, did that, but u gotta make sure the AI gets the categories as well.

tiny, medium, big, large huge worked nicely. A "colossus" should be something special, IMO- perhaps as a single vessel per civ?

What is a bit sad is that the largest vessel is scaled at huge size: I.e. on the map there won't be any ships displayed larges than at huge scale

What image? All you need is to point at the model file from the hull entry. You don't need a thumbnail or anything else (the game will generate one itself).

colossus? from where did you get that name??? I did it before, I wanted one more class, "gigantic" now it's large, hugh, gigantic...

I used my imagination.....
btw anyone wanna do this idea ahead of me.....go 'ed saves me a job, im lazy. plus i'd have to work it all out....I could do it....i'm just lazy.
