CAN I PLAY MULTIPLAYER?

I have a local friend, and we have never played on the metaverse before, we want to play in a game together. There is a game that is very similar to this one that can be played with multiple human users. "Spaceward Ho!" (we used to play together a long time ago) can we do this now? if so how?

There isn't any multiplayer in this game.

The metaverse  is a way to record your single player game on the net to compare with others.

There is a hotseat method -- see Brad's "did you know you could do this" pinned post.

NO! Don't make me shout it again...

You know how some of those website make you look at an ad for 10 seconds before you get to their forums? We should have a message that says "No, there is no multiplayer" or "Use the Search Function".

yeah, there are like 10 posts the have been asking the same thing only this week... who said there is a multiplayer? you said it? well, there isn't and I'm not sure but it won't gonna happen soon ok?

There is no multiplayer in this game.

You must be the 20,000th person to ask about it. People just have to accept that there is no demand for multiplayer in this game.

Heheehe, irony

But no. No multiplayer. Not in the current expansion either. In fact, reviews sites often point out the lack of multiplayer.

Seriously, are people going "ooh shiny" and buying it without even checking the box?

There are just so few games that are made nowadays that ARENT multiplayer. It's just a lil' dissapointing thats all.

Never, ever, ever, ever assume a game has a feature it doesn't advertise.

{laugh} No demand?

My entire group of friends would buy GalCiv2 in a second if it had multiplayer. But alas, no multiplayer means I'm stuck playing it by myself.

Lack of multiplayer is the only serious flaw in GalCiv2 that I've found so far.

This just in: "Stardock does, however, plan to create an expansion pack sometime mid next year to GalCiv II that includes multiplayer depending on how well Dark Avatar sells (pricing would be about the same as Dark Avatar and it would have lots of other features as well to make sure it appeals to a wide spectrum)."

Any chance of that being stickied?

so there will be a "metaverse" option and a multiplayer or the "multiplayer" will take the place of the metaverse?, I want to take my time in games, I don't want some guy to be more advanced then me in the same level, and if I'll decide I want to go to the bathroom? what will he do? take the chance and eat more chips? saying in the eat-chips progress, "what a loser..."... if there's gonna be a multiplayer in GalCiv, make 2 options, one metaverse and one multiplayer, that's fair, (but anyway, I don't like multiplayer, especially after playing the metaverse..)

Anything we do will be fairly unique I'm sure.

This is fantastic news! In fact it's a reason to buy "Dark Avatar" (which I previously wasn't even considering).

What about offering a multiplayer pre-order? If enough of us pre-paid $100 for multiplayer maybe that would motivate Stardock to do it sooner?

Well, time to e-mail my friends and let them know multiplayer is coming.

{laugh} Yeah, somehow every pro-multiplayer person knows a crowd of people who would rush to the stores to buy it.

A lot of MP gamers tend to forget that the demand for good single player games is also pretty big. Nobody notices us though, because most SP games have been crap for a long time. Don't mistake lack of sales for lack of demand.

You hit that on the head. This is the 1st 4X TBS game since Alien Crossfire expansion for Alpha Centauri that I've liked ( And Korsun Pocket is the only other TBS that i've liked since AC but Korsun Pocket isn't a 4X TBS or in the same league as AC and GC2 ).

I hope you mind it seriously. All this pressure for multiplayer is really annoying tbh, and all these "hey every game nowadays is multiplayer, so this one has to include it aswell" or "all my friends will buy it only if it is multiplayer" arguments are pretty low. Most games are designed for multiplayer, and as a consequence, end up being quite lame for single players. Most of my friends would buy this one if it had good death-metal background music, but I don't think that would be such a great idea...

Every "good" (meh) game nowadays is eye-candy, fluffy and designed for instant-gratification for 12-years-old kids when their xboxs are off, and eventually includes half-naked women and bodybuilded heroes. (me, exaggerating !? nah, never). Let's include all the features that are supposed to sell well and woot what a great interesting game we'll get. please no.

I wouldn't really mind a multiplayer expansion, if it could be done without redesigning anything in the SP gameplay and without reducing the work done for the SP features. And I highly doubt this would be doable.

Even if you ARE joking, that's entirely possible by editing the sound files

I agree. Multiplayer certainly WOULD draw more people in, and I know that there are a few people who I would personally like to set the other 8 races on. But if it redesigned the SP gameplay in any negative way, I wouldn't touch ot with a ten foot barge pole.

I wonder how the folks calling for multiplayer will feel when they all LOSE to the AI!

I'd love to see players losing to the AI in multiplayer because they were too busy fighting with each other to realize the AI empires were forming alliances and growing powerful while the foolish humans fought! That'd be awesome.

I suspect the multiplayer and singleplayer crowds will always have different points of view. In HoI many whine that singleplayer is pitiful and you have to play multiplayer to enjoy the game, but then whine that the multiplayer code is unstable and unreliable. HoI is a game that tries to cater to both crowds and in my opinion shows exactly why multiplayer is desired (because single player just isn't as fun). It seems that both sides prefer their way of playing and both sides seem to feel the developers ignore and favor the other side. I'd love to see a game that worked well for both.

GalCiv2 looks like it could be that game. It's good in singleplayer and would be great in multiplayer.

I thinks that 20000 people asking would indicate some demand for multiplayer. The main reason several of my friends bought Civ 4 instead of Galciv is because of the mp option (we all tend towards the Sci-fi)
