Movie & Speech Funky

The movie on the game are VERY choppy for me, and when trying to listen to the tutorials the speech kept pausing every second or so.

My video drivers are updated, and the videos play fine when not in-game. Any ideas?

Alrighty, now it wont run at all. I changed my monitor to see if that would help any, and now i start it up and get a black screen, and need to alt-f4 out.

I've tried uninstall/reinstall but it still doesn't go past a black screen.

It was working ok, other then the first problems I stated, for 2 or 3 days now.

Go to My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2 and delete the file prefs.ini to reset to defaults.

Once you get back in the game, turn anti-aliasing down/off. That's most likely the cause of the stuttering (FX5000 series doesn't handle FSAA very well...).

Awesome! I remember reading about that file somewhere, but I couldn't remember what the location was.

The movies are still uber choppy though

Did you turn off antialiasing?

Yup, the movies are still choppy though.

Yeah same with me but not all the movies it randomly picks and choose which ones to ruin its quite annoying.

FSAA is usually the culprit, so if it's off I'm not sure what could be causing the problem. If you've got any unneccessary background programs running, try closing them. Otherwise all I can really tell you is try updating your video and sound drivers (though they should be new enough already to work fine), and turning down settings until you find one that works.

I used to have a machine myself that would stutter in bink videos no matter what the settings in any game, even after reformatting. Very frustratng.

I think that may be the case for me as well, I've played a couple games with Bink and no matter what I do they always want to stutter in game for some reason.
