1.3 Starting money?

Can this be customized?

Do I see correctly that as of 1.3, one will start no longer with 5000bc but rather 7500 bc?
This I would find to be most displeasing. If anything, I wish we started with less.

(I had wished for an option in 1.2 to allow users to customize the starting amounts of money for the human and the AI players. I would really like to be able to start with less, while giving the AI more. Is there any chance of this happening? Is it really very hard?)

well it does give the player a bit more of an advantage at the initial colony rush.

Agree, $7500 is better.

I don't want even more advantages. Currenty, I have to turn so many options off because of lack of challenge, I would like the option to start with, say, 1000 bc.

the computors also start with 7500... so i dont see what the problem is.

The starting money should be based on the difficulty level you are playing...less money at higher difficulty levels, more on the easier levels.

Glad to see there is at least one other person who thinks that the planned 7500bc starting funds is too much. I also don't care for the added starting morale and population. But its not a big deal one way or the other -- might be nice to have some starting options.

Doubt Forgboy is doing this too give the human player an advantage -- much more likely it is because the AI likes it ( especially at higher difficulty levels ).

Actually I think the players who have trouble getting an economy going will have even more trouble with more cash -- they'll just use the funds to buy stuff quickly and create a bigger hole even faster.

UGhhh...
Why do you worry about the other ppl that dont know how to play?????
If YOUR a good player, you'll use it wisely, and instead of making high maintanance building and ships, buy markets instead, duhh.

Yeah this could cause more problems for the player than the AI. Think how much the AI was able to do with 5000 bc now think how much it will do with 2500bc more.

I think they added this because many people where complaining that on bigger galaxies they would run out of money if they tried to colonize as many planets as the AI. And if they didnt they would lose the game.

2500BC ain't that much... it spends pretty quickly, especially on big maps.

The problem is the AI will probably use it to rush buy. Meanwhile, the player who knows what he's doing will sacrifice the immediate results a little and use the cash to build instead of buy. 2500 will buy the AI another couple of colony ships. It gets the player either two or three fully developed planets (with basic buildings anyway) or another *20* colony ships (most likely a combination).

Improving the AI's decision making regarding buying would make a dramatic difference to its standard of play IMO. Probably doesn't really make much difference on the top levels though where it has so much economy bonus that it really doesn't matter much whether it buys or builds.
