Babylon 5 Mod Development

xml freaks?

While 0.3a is up for people to play (test! ) I think it's time to plan the medium-term future of the mod. There are lots of things to try implementing but I'd like to focus on one aspect of the mod at a time. We have a few model importers now - if you think you can help with anything else, this is the thread!

Hulls are what I am most keen to get in to next, really looking for someone to pick up the tech torch. The rough plan of attack, in order of when I am likely to get to them, is: Plan.txt

The Babylon 5 mod needs YOU!

I haven't dl this mod since the very initial release of it. Just thought I might give you some help. http://www.sf3dmodels.boom.ru This site has some nice ships that you might want to consider adding to the mod.

Hey,
first sorry for my english

i think i have found the bug of 0.3 version
it's in StarbaseModules.xml file some Tech_Requirement are different with your weapons version files for exemple in SniperTurrets Tech_Requirement MiniBalls /Tech_Requirement MiniBalls don't exist in your files the same thing with SubSpaceWarheads, Photonic Torpedo II don't exist in your files etc etc
The problem is the same with your propulsion files.

Going well so far with 0.4, lots and lots of changes that make the game diverge further from default GC2. I really like the idea of having more valuable starting systems, should make it harder to wipe out a major... but before I play games testing the balance I wanted to get stuck in to the hulls:

Ships are now in four categories: Cargo, Capital, Corvette and Fighter. There are several variations within these categories, and all hulls are individually named and described. GC2 hulls have been removed from the player's view.

Voltron has contributed a massive 50 hull imports for the next release: most are updates to existing designs but there will be a fair few new ships in 0.4!

wow, looks awesome.

Does the AI have access to those hulls as well?

That's what I am working on at the moment, but it doesn't seem to work as I thought it would. Would tentatively say that 0.4 will be out next weekend but it is taking me a lot longer than I thought to get it all in order. Down to a lot of trial and error as the modguide doesn't really go in to detail about what files the AI calls.

Rav I feel your pain---why can't stardock release some official modding programs to help the modders as well as some type of modding guide to go along with it---surely they are using some type of programs to develope this game---there seems to be little support from them to the modding community and I really believe this is why we have very few mods posted on their forums!!!!

There's already an official modding guide, and pretty much all the programs the devs used are publically available already if you want them yourself. The only thing we made ourselves was the scenario editor, which is just far too rough to release (would be more problem than it would solve).

If you have a question the modding guide *doesn't* cover, just post your questions or pop on IRC during business hours.

Where would we find the programs that stardock used that are publically available?

As a Babylon5 fan, I must say this mod looks awesome. Is it actually operational for 1.31 at the moment?

btw- anyone know why B5 isn't in syndication? I would have expected Space Channel to pick it up years ago.

No B5 on TV is to maximize DVD sales... WB has already reaped $500 mil gross ... so no B5 on TV for now... a little OT, there is still some buzz about a B5 RPG computer game ... but I have been hearing this for almost 2 years, so we will see.

Looks like buying the DVDs is the only option to see B5 again. As for a game, a GC2 B5 mod would be at least as good, judging from the little I have seen. Looks like the models and textures are coming along nicely.

Is the mod going to be straight sandbox (which would be just fine) or will there be a scripted story or campaign?

The Galciv2 Babylon 5 Mod was our last best hope for being able to have a good B5 feeling again.

It didn't fail...

The year is 2006.

Not quite correct. IIRC TNT is still holding the TV rights for B5 and they wont give em away although they are of no value for them. So no new B5 TV episodes without them. But since they screwed Crusade already JMS doesn't want to even try.
That and the fact that making B5 took quite a toll on his health and private life.

WB on the other hand pulls the strings when it comes to the big screen. That's why JMS cancelled his movie project last year. WB tried to force him into changing the cast to their liking.
