These games need a new victory condition...

I just bought this game over a week and a half ago and I'm enjoying it a lot. However, I think it (and games like it) needs a new victory condition (that is, a new way to win).

Cultural, Technological, Diplomatic and Conquest victories are nice, but what about an Economic victory? That is... you're richest player in the game, have a ton of resources, trade with most of the cultures on the map and possess a manufacturing capacity so great that all other nations/countries/cultures are either in awe of you or they fear you so much that they won't dare go against you.

Well, arguably all of them are economic victories, since you can't win without a strong economy and if you do have a strong economy (as compared to the AIs), you can pretty much pick the way you want to win

I'm more or less with Kryo on this. So your economy is fantastic, so what? You win the game by doing something with that economy. You develop good diplomatic relations, or you take over the other economies with influence, or you conquer everyone. You can't win just by sitting back and bragging to the other races about how rich you are.

i would have to agree braging how Rich you are and how powerful your Manufacting sectors are is just a good way to have someone invade you if you are not defended enough even then they might just try.

I know i certianly cherry pick the planets i first go after to get the greatest reward for my effort and at the same time hurt the AI by losing some of his best planets in my first couple moves.

I think it would just be to easy to win that way because you could just give your self social/military production bonuses right of the bat and win in a few minutes! or you win when the quaterly review comes up

Yup Kyro said it best you can't win with a poor economy so it's always part of any victory anyways.

Alpha Centauri had various other winning conditions. I think there were more but I remember: alliance, political, conquest, economic, ascention type thing. I'm sure there was at least one more. The thing was, the way economics and political systems worked in that game, they were more advanced than here. I would hope in GC3, an effort would be made to improve on AC in everyway, to make "other than conquest" victories more taxing and exciting.
