Problem with 1.3 Beta3X crashing frequently

Hi everyone

I'm having trouble with the latest build not being stable on my machine and i'm not sure if this is a problem on my end or a bug in the build because all previous versions worked perfectly stable on my machine so far.

I have a savegame that reliably produces a crash on my machine when i end the current turn and i wanted to ask if someone could check out if this savegame crashes on other PCs aswell. The savegame can be downloaded via this link: www.keith303.i24.cc/r2d2/Crash.rar

So if someone could download my savegame and either confirm or deny that it crashes for him/her aswell i'd be happy. Just load the savegame and hit the "end turn" button. For me the game crashes before reaching the next turn.

Thanks in advace

Email your savegames to [email protected] if they crash reliably (please send them in zip format, not any others).

I have had the same problem, but the crash is random and does not repeat when the game is reloaded.

Yesterday I sent in 3 SmartException logs to support, so hopefully something will be apparent. They were from the same game, and as soon as I start a new game I will send in reports from it, if it also crashes. But so far it has been every game with every beta of 1.3 I have used, which is this and the last versions.

But 1.3bxx has crashed more times than it has in the history of my use. Three in a single game is a new record for my machine.

@kryo:
I already sent an email but unfortunately i attached the wrong savegame (stupid me). So in order to prevent the devs from possibly wasting even more time on my issue i thought i'd make sure that it isn't some kind of problem on my end first (by asking other users to check the savegame out - if it crashes for them aswell it's less likely to be a problem with my hardware/installation).
Thanks for the tip about the .zip format, that was news to me.

After a pause of a couple weeks i updated GalCiv-II and started a new game. Sadly it looks like my pc dont like V1.3,cause since the update the game crashes constantly. Its impossible to play. I mean i can start a new game and make a couple dozend turns but than it crashes to the desktop. After restarting the game and loading the last autosave i can make - with luck - a couple turns before it crashes again. Before the V1.3 Updates i could play endless time with no crash. I have also looked into the debug.err but there is no clue why the game crashes.

The debug.err file does not show anything with my crashes either.

If it is not installed on your computer yet, you should get into Stardock Central - Free Stuff and install Smart Exception. Have it running when you play GalCiv2, and when it crashes a report will be generated that should help the devs track down the problem.

It will create 2 files in the C:\Program Files\Stardock\SmartException\ZippedExceptions folder, which you attach to an e-mail to [email protected] using the subject line SmartException gives you.

The e-mail address given by SmartException has a .net extension on it instead of .com, by the way. So if you copy and paste the address make sure you change it before sending it to Stardock.

I think you also need to delete those files once you've sent them, because when I did my second report last night the original .zip file was not overwritten with the new one. So I deleted it and remade the report and it created the new file.

Ah well,i just de- and reinstalled GalCiv-II,udated it to V1.2 and it runs like a charme again. I guess it will take a while for me to risk an update to a V1.3 Beta again. However,i have installed Smartexception now and the next time i feel brave enough to check a beta out i send in a proper exception report,i promise.

There's no rules about what format to use, I just said that because I don't know what zip software the people reading those mails will be using and what formats they support. But you can (mostly) always count on zip being usable, so it's best to use that to save any potential trouble or extra work.
