Would an Enhanced Texture Pack be worth paying for?

A few of us had mentioned we would be interested in better textures for the game.
Kryo had mentioned that using high resolution textures would not be compatible with older hardware.

This thread is to let the devs know how many of us, that have the hardware to take advantage of better textures, would be willing to pay Stardock for a mini-expansion of upgraded higher resolution textures.

If you have older hardware please do not respond to this post. It is not a debate on whether to make them available; it is a request to the devs from those of us willing to put our money where our mouth is.

Because I, for one, would be willing to fork over $5-10 to see some fancier graphics.
And I'll second the motion from my nephew, Matthew, who has better hardware than I do.

So, that's 20 bucks in Stardock's pocket -- so far -- for an Enhanced Texture Pack.

We'll even pre-order when the word is "Go".

Anyone else interested in twisting Stardock's arm?

Please note, Geforce 2, 3, or (probably) 4 (or the ATI equivalent) cards would not be suitable. My Geforce 6800 GS 256MB card just might be, just barely.

FYI, Brad has talked about doing one at some point (possibly even for free--dig back through the dev journals, it's in there someplace IIRC), it's just a matter of getting the time to do it. All of the ship textures at least are already in vector format, so it would just be a matter of opening all of them, resizing, and resaving. Planet textures are another story though.

High-res textures just weren't done for the release game since there's no detail adjustment option in the game and that many HD textures would be too much for video cards with less than 256MB of ram (thus killing performance on any lesser vidcards).

I would pay for that. It would help make me feel justified for all the cash I have spent on my rig.

Uhm.... Brad said we would get them shortly after release ("in March")... which was half a year ago. When asking about them a while ago I got yelled at (not by the devs) because they weren't "critical" enough and now you want to *pay* for them???
Well, of course I still would like them but considering they were promised even before release, I don't see me paying to get them.

Yes, well, since time = money, and they have not had the time, then offering a little money might free up some time.

Heck, someone might be willing to put in some overtime to get it done, especially if they got some pay for said overtime. We all know how much of their own time they have donated to us for free already.
If it should be free but there is no time, then let the money we will pay go to pay the overtimed employee for the considerable time and effort it would take.

I mean I'll pay good money for high textures,

Considering I just upgraded to a Conroe E6600, 2 GB of shiny Corsair and a 7950 GX2 I definately have the hardware to run it.

That said, I wouldn't pay for the upgrade. As pretty as the game is I spend most of my gametime zoomed out pretty far; not quite to the strategy map level but far enough out where ship graphics are largely irrelevant until I get into a fight.

Now I'm off to play my first ever Huge map now that I can finally run it.

I have got my moneys worth out of this game three times over already! i would be happy to pay a little extra money for a little extra eyecandy

would be nice if my 6800 could run what they want to do.

I too would appreciate some higher resolution textures. More so for the planets, colony view and galactic view, and the ground invasion screens. Does changing the graphic files raise a cheat flag on the Metaverse? If not perhaps this could be a project the 3rd party community could take care of.

I am hoping the same thing with my 6800 GS. I have a factory overclocked version that runs the game pretty well, although not as well as my nephew's ATI X1900. But I am willing to give it a shot in any case. I think that our level of card is right at the borderline, though.
