what happened to the GCII original concept?

The fields got delayed. They're returning for DA.

The ships, by the look of them, are pre-customisation.

I have to admit, I DO like that UI.

Asteroid fields would be awesome.

1) That's not the "Original Concept". That title belongs to this picture, if any.

2) That's a mockup, not a real screenshot. The game never actually looked like that. The interface is an idealized version of the one that eventually ended up in the early betas. The planets in that 'screenshot' certainly apear to be sprites, not 3d models, as they've been since early versions of the GC2 engine back in late 2003 (before Altarian Prophecy was even out). And as you can see in the links above, the minimap *never* looked like it does in the mockup.

That planet wasn't Earth, remember. That was Krom. Frankly, I wouldn't want to live there, it looks a bit wet for my taste

...that's why they call it a "concept"! From conception to publication games change quite a bit due to many many factors.

Krom... Earth... all the habitable planets are the same (since all of them were created from the prototype of Earth...)

That's one of the most reduntant comments I've ever heard. Funnily enough, planets are different. There's no "template" in reality, if you're going to try that card. Rock comes together and forms a planet. Now in-game, not all planets are Earth like.

In DA, planets will definitely not be the same with the new planet types and all.

Have you ever seen a PICTURE of Mars? It's red and rocky and, frankly, a dump. Earth is nice and green/blue, in case you hadn't noticed.

I'm slightly confused as to whether you're talking about in game or real life, but I'm guessing your talking about real life (in which case Mars really is different because it really isn't habitable). If you're talking about in game then yes, I have been to Mars a lot of times, and it looks very different from Earth.

Well when they have their concept and then turn it into reality, they need to make sure EVERYTHING WORKS PROPERLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I said above, the reason those things are not in the game is because they never were. That's not a real screenshot, just a mockup of what it 'could' look like.

Asteroids were put on hold until DA (I do not know why). The picture of Krom and the angle-ringed planet are just 2d sprites. There were never such planets or features in the game at any point.
