missin 3d objects in main galactic screen

sorry if this has been asked before, but...

what do i do when my main galactic screen doesn't have any of the 3d objects (e.g. planets, ships, etc.) as shown in this image? (did i turn something off - that i can't seem to find?)

Looks like you inadvertantly changed the "Strategic zoom level" slider in the options. Normally when you zoom out a ways the map switches to icons so you can still easily see what's going on at a distant zoom. Adjusting that slider changes what level of zoom it changes modes at, with the lowest setting making it always strategic mode, and the highest setting making it never use strategic mode.
