Surprise Attacks

What's the largest you've pulled off?

In my current game I'm playing the Drengin on a gigantic galaxy, with abundant planets. Difficulty is set to challenging with randomized intelligence turned on.

The Altarians were at war with the Yor, and I noticed they had a massive number of undefended planets on my borders. So I spent some turns churning out transports with 31 speed, lined them up on the borders, and then struck: I captured 21 planets in a single turn. The next turn I mopped up and captured 4 more planets.

It far from crippled the Altarians, but it's certainly the largest surprise attack I've pulled off.

I look forward to the AI being sneaky and vicious enough to pull off surprise attacks like that.

I did have one game recently where the Drengin and the Arceans both attacked without warning. They took out a couple undefended econ starbases and tried to take a few planets.

And they were unrelated attacks. The Drengin attacked earier in the game, and long after I had wiped them out the Arceans attacked. I think it was one of the only games I have played that war was not declared before the first attack.

The Arcaens were very sneaky once, they moved all their ships into range around my planets, we were "Close" at the time and they were at war with the Yor, who had several planets close to mine so I though that they were simply fighting against the Yor. But as soon as the Arcaens got in prime position, they announced that I was not profitable to them and wiped me out, literally in the space of three or four turns. The game was on Challenging difficulty and the Arcaens were random intelligence. I got my own back however, by wiping them out in the next game.

Wow, I've never seen anything like that happen!

Neither did I. I really crave the idea to wipe the remains of the Iconians (such good world put to waste...) in 1 turn. If my transports can move 50 parsec/week, I can cross their whole empire within 1 week. And I would send my "rank-and-file" battle ships to do the job, lol. No heavy weaponry...

But do I give them at least 1 week to surrender? Or for the remaining civs (who are all Good or Neutral) to declare war on me, Powerhouse #3, but the sole evil player of the galaxy?

The Arceans just tried to really f me up.
I was allied to them, since their military might was second only to my own. Both the Drengin(who were mightily powerful) and the Drath attacked the Arceans, and they screamed for help. So sure, I honored my alliance, wiped the Drath and started to duke it out with the Drengin. After 6-7 turns of hard combat, in which even the Burning Volcano(my flagship, I played a custom race, Disciples of Fire) was destroyed, the Arceans contact me and tell me that my evil can not be tolerated in the galaxy any more. The turn after that, they made peace with the Drengin. And this is how I learned why it is a good thing to have speedy ships for retreats.
